People getting pissed or no, I passed on the Potato Sack initially because I owned half the games already. I then got into the ARG when it was revealed, and got every potato I could for the games I owned. Then the unique skins were announced, and I bought the sack.

In return, i've gotten a shit-ton of fun games to try out. Someday I'll be brave enough for Amnesia proper.

And after a solid day of work, I got the golden potato.

And now I'm gonna help others. :D

Okay, that's Defense Grid and Super Meat Boy claimed.

(This leaves AAAA and Audiosurf for the war effort -- and only Audiosurf will actually count, although AAAA can add a couple potatoes if you become really good at the game REALLY fast, and Portal if anyone still, STILL does not own that game.)

If it's still up for grabs I'll totally snag audiosurf off your hands for the cause!

    Sent. That just leaves AaAaaaaAAAaaa..

Edit: Don't forget that Companion cubes, while blocking chains, will net you 5,000 points IF THEY HIT THE BOTTOM OF THE GRID. Try to avoid color paints that change everything to a color unless you have all 21 spots full.

And have your grid clear at the end of the map - the medal icon will show you your progress including every modifier you've earned except the clean ending 5%, and that's what gave me the extra 10k I needed to get my potato.

Anyone else having crash issues with AudioSurf since the Potato stuff went live?

Yes. Granted, I only have 101 minutes of playtime so far, but it's been crashing a lot.

It also doesn't like Don't Stop Believin', apparently. This makes me sad.

I'm not getting this Potato Sack business. The site doesn't seem to explain it very well.

What are they wanting me to do here besides buy the games?

    Beat the games? Achievements? What?

I already own Amnesia. Do they want me to just... play it again or something?

You just play to make the bars go up. And play, and play, and play. And then, after half a day or so, the progress bar MIGHT have noticeably moved.

Well no wonder Amnesia's bar is so low.

They never gave explicit instructions, but here's the best we've gathered:

The giant bar at the top is the average of all the individual bars. When all the individual bars are filled, Portal 2 will be released.

Alternatively, it will be released when the timer reaches zero. Every individual bar we complete reduces the timer by an hour or less. So far one game has reduced by 50 minutes, one by 40, and one by 60.

The bars seem to be filled by having lots of people playing that game. It has not been confirmed one way or the other if idiling in the game counts, or if you have to be actively playing it. Additionally, the bars seem to be filling faster every time we complete a bar.

Valve has also hinted that the potato count at the bottom will help boost the rate at which the bars fill.

Since you own Amnesia, you can help out by 1. Playing Amnesia (or at least keeping it open in another window) as much as possible, and 2. Getting three potatoes.

    Potatoes:
    1. Join this steam group
    2. Create a profile in Amnesia named "Casbah". This is case sensitive. A login screen will appear, enter "troubled memories".
    3. When you launch Amnesia from Steam, the launcher with all the options appears before the game. There is a button on the bottom right that says "Justine". This is a new DLC episode. If you get 100% on it (which is kind of hard without a walkthrough), you will get another potato. No password necessary for this one.

edit: fixed, had the wrong password for potato 2.

And the other two for defense grid can be gotten pretty easily just by copying one of the videos on youtube. Observe:

By the way, Bit.Trip Beat has an ogg file for the music used in the <TEST> level which is pretty easily converted to an mp3 or whatever.

    This one.

However, as a bystander, watching this thing unfold is fascinating - it's a great marketing concept. The idea of utilizing a existing catalog of indie games (some that have fallen to the wayside and others that may not have had much limelight to begin with) to generate buzz and hype for a big release... it really is brilliant.

It was great in concept, but ultimately has backfired. That said, it would have been incredibly easy to make it a success -- If they had started this whole process a week ago, made it both more transparent and achievable for the community to have some appreciable reward, this might go down as one of the most successful marketing ploys of all time.

However, that means they would have had to concede to the retail impact of actually releasing a game substantially (couple days) early, which it seems now they had no stomach for. They tried to have their cake and eat it too, and I think the community will now be substantially more jaded to them as marketers as a result.
