Man, I loved the loading screens in The Witcher. There were so damn awesome looking.
I did quite like being able to spot the places where the concept art matched the final game world almost perfectly. Wonder how the apparent few will be handled next game.

Maybe they'll still have the flashback sequences. Those were beautiful. I might have to look them up.
Edit: Dammit, they were in the last thread, but I can't find that.
While Geralt's hair isn't as flowy as it was due to him adopting the hairstyle from the comics, it certainly looks miles ahead of Dragon Age's.
If it's ahead of Skyrim remains to be seen, we still haven't seen Skyrim in motion.
Considering that skyrim is still tied to console architecture, especially RAM limits, I wouldn't count on it.
This is what a game that is designed with PC assets in mind looks like.
And I'd argue that the witcher was closer to the classical bioware/black isle school of cRPGs than a lot of the recent games bioware and obsidian themselves have been making
perhaps MRPG, or Middle Role Playing Game would be more suitable.
None of those?
These games focus on nearly the same things wrpgs do. So its nearly pointless to specify them.
Also looking somewhat forward to Witcher 2. Though, its on no priority. DX:HR/DS3/Risen 2 (if it comes out this year) are higher on.
May have something to do that I just can't get into Witchers world for some reason.

Aside from Dragon Age (which I'd say genuinely wasn't compromised by the console version existing except for the huge delay in release and all that damned DLC), I'd agree. But I think the only way of really getting back to that style of RPG is by going partially-voiced. As in, very select lines that are crucial to the plot/characters and will usually be seen on a basic playthrough - everything else as text. And I know that's just not profitable nowadays, and sort of makes a mockery of spending million of dollars on developing everything else to do with your game, but it's the only way you can do extensive dialogue, heavily-branching dialogue, and totally convincing dialogue (even the best videogame voicework is still not quite convincing/immersive). It also allows for far cheaper localisation of your game, which has to be a factor for a Polish game.
I'm not sure I believe the stuff about the branching plot - they say you could miss an entire area due to decisions in previous acts. If true I can see myself doing more than my usual one play-through, gotta soak up all that glorious content.
Yeah, there are lots of people who rabidly defend DA2, but TW2 is objectively several orders of magnitude better looking and is almost certainly being produced on a much lower budget (granted dev' costs are lower in Poland).
Yup, though CD Projekt has more resources than most other Devs. Especially thanks to GOG.
I certainly can't wait for this game it's my must have game of the year. The Witcher was an outstanding experience so much I even got the two novels that are out, they're superb read themselves. Got the Collectors Edition pre ordered despite it going to cost me something like 150 bucks but fuck it, I want it, I want it bad.
Witcher 2 is looking as phenomenal as ever! It's currently the only RPG that I'm looking forward to this year : > I really should finish the original Witcher, but the game was incredibly tedious during Chapter II (Vizima)

Just go through the whole thing. It doesn't matter if you feel like it's dragging, just play through the whole thing. You won't regret it.
I'm currently debating doing another playthrough of the original now. I recently finished the last two chapters and I went with the Scoia'tel. I was thinking of trying a neutral run using signs instead of swords. Anyone know how well that works?
Not really sold on the combat yet. It doesn't look very natural, and I'm afraid it's going to be a non-stop rollfest. Looking forward to seeing what kind of development options you have.

If I buy it on GoG, I don't get a key for Steam, right?
edit: I just watched that video. He does roll around an excessive amount. It's like a 70's cop show in there.
Yeah, it was a toss up between Steam or GoG for me. I went ahead and pre-ordered on GoG though. No money down, no commitment to buy, no DRM, cool little freebies right off the bat and having the game available through my GoG account is a pretty awesome package right there. Plus, if I know GoG/CDP, I wouldn't be surprised if they had some extra unannounced goodies up their sleeves for the faithful.
And considering the trouble they went through to get somewhat realistic combat animations in the first Witcher, I'd hope they wouldn't totally abandon that approach. Whatevs though, as long as it's fun he can roll and flip around as much as he wants.
I enjoyed the plot of the first game, and I had to admit that the sex parts were worth a few chuckles, but that combat system was just so obnoxious. I don't play rhythm based games because I have none. I play turn-based or real-time-with-pause for a good reason. The whole click-at-the-right-time-to-do-your-combo was not something I enjoyed, though if I played on an easier difficulty it was too easy.
I ended up just spamming the fire rune because: fuck 'em.
I don't think I have a save of my old game still, anyway.
I got to vizima and was struggling to hey more than 15 fps. Planning on restarting. Eventually. So many games to get through.

Well, get ready for more rhythm based combat, since they are taking inspiration from Batman: AA. That system is all about rhythm, it's just not obnoxious because you take your cues from the characters and not a flashing mouse cursor.

Focusing on magical signs instead of sword combat is perfectly acceptable. Many fans even encourage it as a viable alternative play style.

I was just looking at the store page on GOG and posted that in the Video Game Industry thread.
Sorry for stealing your thunder if you were about to post there.

Does it work well even through the endgame? I distinctly recall towards the end that I'd upgraded Aard pretty much all the way, but more and more enemies kept ending up immune to my telekinetic stun blasts.

You probably just needed more oomph put into other signs to take down the ones immune to Aard.

I think this is probably going to be the only game I pay full price for at release this year, unless something comes at me out of left field.

As if to say, "By the way folks. We aren't even beta testing the game internally yet, and we have graphics that look on par with Crysis".
If I have to choose between this and DA2, I know where my money is going.
Witcher 2 is on my Steam list though, not doing anything but witchering.

Also, that last video, all I see in the opening is a horses ass. Look at his ponytail, tell me it doesn't look like a horse's tail. SWISHH SWISH SWISH
