I want to pick up programming.

I've been eyeing these "Head First" books for a good while now. Anyone used them?

These are the books I'm talking about.

I've only poked through them (by the time they came out I was past their audience) but they always looked good to me. If you do well in the textbook/homework/test style of learning there are better books out there, but if you're not you will get a lot out of them. The creator of the series, Kathy Sierra, is a super cool lady whose blog was full of interesting posts on education and learning.
