I'm trying to find a good 3rd for my Hulk/Storm team. I've been using Dr. Doom for his assists (of course), but I don't do well with him at all when he's on point, so slow. Got any ideas for a suitable replacement?
I'd like a character that:
- has an assist that helps Hulk's offense
- not too complex executionally
- isn't hopeless when the last character remaining
Sentinel is an obvious choice but, you know, he's Sentinel. I'm going to practice with him, but I'd prefer keeping him as a back-up for when I'm getting worked or when my hate for ranked mode is strong, haha.
...what? around 27:45 is a perfect example of how to handle phoenix when its 3 characters to 1 and she still has x-factor. The phoenix player lost.
Really? Running around and waiting for a time out.. As opposed to, you know, growing a fucking pair and actually using your two assists to take her down?
What you're not getting is that right now lvl 3 x factored dark phoenix is almost always a guaranteed win.
Until someone finds a way to counter that without getting blown the fuck up people are going to run away rather than deal with lvl 3 x factor dark phoenix.
Hulk (his SRK)/storm (her projectile thingy)/tron (flame assist)
Tron's has been one of my candidates to use early on (before picking Hulk/Storm) but I'd like to give whoever decided to make her drill a reverse DP motion a kick in the beanbag.
I like playing fighting games in the start due to the (slightly) more level playing field that exists. With DA2 coming out in a week I'm a bit worried that it's going to be much much harder to find people I can compete with once I'm done with that game.
I still have fun in training mode messing around with character combinations, so I still have that to fall back on.

Why risk getting crushed by dark phoenix shenanigans when he had the match won already?

Yes. Its way too easy for x-factored dark phoenix to sweep entire teams. When you're that far ahead on life, its much smarter to wait it out. Basically, all the other player did was jump and block, which means that Phoenix only ever got low-damage grabs. And since Phoenix can't land any combos off of a grab, it means that its very difficult for her to win.
What I'm surprised at is that nearly nobody except for JWong snaps in phoenix from the beginning.

The thing that puts Tron over the top for me is that she can so easily continue combos with zero assistance. With just Hulk, you get your ground bounce and can knock them back down to get them with Gamma Tsunami or Gamma Quake, but Tron just goes for ages with her low fierce and target lock.
I still think not having tech rolls was a really bad call for the game.
And that Phoenix fight was the same way I fight people trying to push for Dark Phoenix. No way am I going to cooperate and actually hand them the tool to get back on top of the game. It's better than putting up a good fight and then losing your entire team to six hits because you just HAD to press the attack.
But balance-wise, my major, major problem with Phoenix is the fact that she has a damned homing fierce projectile that lasts for ages and she can do it multiple times in the air. I'm fine with the rest of her zoning stuff, but dealing with that one projectile requires a wholly disproportionate amount of effort compared to using it.
In an unrelated note, Taskmaster can also negate virtually all projectiles with his QCB Fierce. It'll reflect something like Ryu's hadoken, but even conventional beam attacks end up doing nothing since he does a little counter move that makes him ignore the beam itself. The timing is pretty tight, but hey, it looks awesome doing a counter move through Sentinel face beams or practically anything else.

I think these people think they can use the meter to just blow through their team before they get five bars. I refuse to think they just forget like I do because a lot of these kids played MvC2 so they know.
The dumb thing about the first strategy is that if they have Sentinel on his team, killing him has to give like at least a bar and a half to two bars if he does nothing else but die.
Though seriously, still early days. Everyone expected sentinel and phoenix teams to blow through everyone but then JWong came with a wolverine/storm/I forgot the third character and a she hulk/ammy/tron team and blows everyone up with it.
If I fail and he get 5 bars before I kill her, I'll intentionally trigger her and keep snapping her in until I kill her DP form.
Running away works, too, but....eh.
I fought Phoenix once so far. Once he went Dark, he just threw out homing fireballs for the rest of the fight and I couldn't figure out anything to do about it.

Snapping in Phoenix and killing her before she can Dark Phoenix is a sweet, sweet nectar. It's like sending the opponent a special certificate that says "Yes, I am actually smarter than you and won't be falling for that little trick".
It's also lots of fun to watch the horrific chip damage she takes from Taskmaster arrows (or basically any projectile). Even if she blocks them, she has to take major unavoidable damage. She ends up having to burn 2 meters to bring in an ally, waste X-factor, let an ally take major damage by tagging them in, or just die from blocking before her big moment.
Conversely, it is still TREMENDOUSLY fun to play an aggressive Phoenix and constantly get the unsuspecting with teleport combos. It seems like most people online just can't get their heads around the idea that Phoenix can actually be as far away as possible one moment and then directly behind them the next. Fighting with and against her really boosts the paranoia level.

Its cool. School's been ruining my life too. Haven't touched marvel in almost 2 weeks now. I might host on friday. I'll PM or text you if I do.
You haven't touched marvel since it was released?
Yeah... I'm that out of it. I don't even have a concept of time anymore.
Last time was when I played chamberlain slightly intoxicated. So... whenever that was. Felt like forever ago. School is for losers. I should have stopped a long time ago.
I was just hoping I wouldn't be forced to pick certain characters or learn the exact same tricks as everyone else just to be able to play here. I guess I had unrealistic expectations. Same with the whole helpful aspect. I guess I should just go stare at videos for a while.

Well, if you look at MvC2, MvC3 isn't nearly on that level (at least not yet) and really Pheonix/etc are quite beatable. But I don't know that you can knock people for just runing away, especially considering how much harder it is (insanely) to fight X-Factor Dark Phoenix than to just run away.
People will absolutely help you out, just ask.

Don't even start with unhelpful. I devoted an entire day last weekend to helping new people! TWO people came and asked for help! IRC is always super full of people who will help you all day. We're not going to sit here all day and ask everyone if they need help. Seek it yourself!
Also, sorry if some of us want to get better at the game?
I was there in IRC that day, nothing was going on when I was around. I would like to learn more and get better, just disappointing that people are skipping the entire middle range of the game. We seem to have jumped from learning how to use the new buttons and system straight to copying the most exploitable tactics seen in tournaments.

Plus that combo builds 2 meters by itself. I really got to stop shying from using her supers. I really like to save meter for dormammu.
Dormammu with meter is stupidly dangerous.
T-bolt, just use tron.
Hulk (his SRK)/storm (her projectile thingy)/tron (flame assist)
It's a damn good combo. Pre-X-factor, every Tron should try and do it.
And I was wrong, looks like it's 900-1 mil pre-X-factor after re-watching it.
I'd like to see if someone could DHC something afterwards to make it more "realistic".
Scary as hell.

She could win purely from chip. Like, c'mon.

God forbid they have a little bit of damage on them beforehand.

Knock her down to ~10% and then fly around until she wastes meter or X-Factor. I have a full team; fuck you, DP.
