Yay numbers! (it's slow here at the newsdesk this morning)
Square Enix and Buena Vista Games have announced that the Kingdom Hearts franchise has shipped more than 5.4 million units in North America, as well as over 10 million units globally since the franchise debuted in 2002.
The breakdown follows:
Kingdom Hearts
(North American Release: September 1st, 2002, PlayStation 2)
Japan: Over 1.5 million
North America: Over 3.0 million
Europe & PAL: Over 1.1 million
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories
(December 7th, 2004, Game Boy Advance)
Japan: Over 0.4 million
North America: Over 0.9 million
Europe & PAL: Over 0.2 million
Kingdom Hearts II
(March 28th, 2006, PlayStation 2)
Japan: Over 1.1 million
North America: Over 1.7 million
Europe & PAL: Over 0.7 million

For some reason the US numbers for these games is only through November, December isn't available.
Anyway, Kingdom Hearts is about as big as Final Fantasy in the US, but a bit smaller (though still a big hit) in Japan.
