DSL vs. XBOX Live: DSL Loses

My DSL internet periodically drops the connection when I'm on Live; specifically R6: Vegas. The internet light on the modem goes off, then the DSL light starts blinking to reestablish the connection.

My actual internet connection seems unaffected by this. I've connected to Live both through a router and directly into the modem, but the problem remains the same.

Do I just need to bite the bullet and get cable internet service?

My Internet does similar things during games (not on XBL, just regular). Have you had your ISP do a line condition check?

This happened to me a while ago when I had DSL. I called the company several times and complained about it. Eventually they sent out a tech to check the line and he told me that the reason for all the drops was because the wiring in the building was too old. He did a little fiddling outside and the dropping stopped, but it was never as fast as advertised.

In other words, call the service provider and tell them the problem and get them over there to check your line.

My place was built in the 1890's, so that makes sense.
