So I am assuming Wal-Mart will have this at midnight for us folks in the US? I'm currently without internet, new apartment and I'm at my family's house using the wi-fi for school.

Getting games at midnight at walmart is usually fairly painless, but it depends on who is on duty that night. Go to electronics and if no one is there ask someone up front.
Groovy. I'll be picking up Black tonight then, it looks like. I just moved and I was worried I'd end up missing the launch, but it looks like though I may not have internet, I will have Pokemon and my roommate is picking up White so it'll be fun. I'll be posting my friend code as soon as we get internet or I happen upon some wi-fi before Monday. Though I'm sure I'll be able to post it soon.
in p much every other aspect they were complete and utter failures
Yeah, such as...? The rivals sucked, the GBA's sound didn't help the music, the lack of a true day and night feature felt like a step back, and there was that weird freaking stretched text that only appeared in RS. Beyond that, the monsters were good if different and more detailed. Abilities added awesome new dynamics to battles. There was actually a plot of some sort in the game, barebones as it was. The levelling curve was much better than in GSC (and by extension HGSS). The environments were fairly diverse, the graphics were a decent step up from Crystal, and it was just generally more balanced than the prior generation.
And after playing HGSS, I now say that baseline Ruby and Sapphire were better games than Gold and Silver. And I adore Gold and Silver. So needless to say I disagree with your assessment on most levels.

Don't count on it for sure. For HG/SS, Thepain73 and I called a local walmart. They confirmed they had the game and we could get it at midnight (we called maybe 11pm or so). So we show up just after 12am and yep.. no games on the shelf. Asked around, yep, we couldn't buy them. So make sure to at least call before you go. And even then, it's walmart. Don't expect a lot out of the employees.

while i disagree that rse were better games than gsc (in fact, i couldn't stand them at first, having borrowed sapphire at first and getting bored halfway through the game and not buying it because of not having anyone with whom to trade and as a result, when i bought emerald along with diamond, i was utterly annoyed by it), i love the music of the rse games, as well as that stretched text better than the font used in emerald.
i actually came to appreciate the third gen halfway during the fourth gen, in late 2008 when i was forced to buy sapphire because i had found a used copy of the colosseum bonus disc. i still think it's the weakest generation, but it's by no means a bad one.
I think each gen is better than the previous. I might hate Hoenn's layout and lack of easy leveling locations and a great deal of the pokémon but the abilities, double battles, and Emerald eventually turned the tide.
Mind you I did not really like Johto until the remakes.
RSE were the last Pokemon games I played before getting out of High School. Because of that, they still have this "too close" feeling about them for me. Include in the revitalized IV/EV system and being able to reach down into the cartridges for a transferable method that still works to this day, and I'd rather see a remade Ruby/Sapphire when the Pokemon engine itself decides to abandon Version 2.0 for 3.0, which may not happen till the next generation. Or maybe even further than that, seeing as how they laid some really outstanding groundwork.
Also, don't forget the order was switched up on us last time:
B/W is just releasing here, but I'm already eagerly anticipating what the next game will entail.

R/S/E hold some of the best early diversity in pokemon typing you can get in any game. Every single type is available in some form or another before the second gym, no other generation even comes close to that kind of record and it was a huge failing in Gen 2, 4 and now 5. I mean, I hate going through the early game in most pokemon games because I can't catch any pokemon I like until after the third gym or so where Gen 1 and 3 at least opened up a huge variety of pokemon and typings up and made the beginning of the game fun and diverse.
I mean, you have access to 5 unique kinds of Pokemon in Unova before the first gym. You have access to the teens in gen 1 and 3, and at least ten in 2 and 4. Worst part of Black and White.

I thought you only had
Starter, Monkey, Dog, Cat, Pig. What else can you get?
EDIT: Ok, I checked and was missing 3. Audino, Patrat and Musharna are also available, though I don't really count Musharna as a different pokemon. Still thats 3 normal types and a Dark type, not exactly a very diverse crowd, and they are all pretty terrible looking or terrible in battle.
Why do you need more than 10 types before the first gym? It's the first gym, it's about 20 minutes into the game. It doesn't make much sense to overwhelm you with choice that early on. Not that I'm against choice mind you, but still. Just as long as we don't get a repeat of the ol' Charmander problem of the original games. Although I do think that you shouldn't be overly stingy with the selection early on. If I'm approaching gym #4 and I'm still using the current gen's Rattata, there's a bit of a problem.

Pretty sure you can add Lotad and Seedot in there too for your respective versions.

Yeah, I forgot a few others (Poochyena, Abra) I added as well.
My point being that Gen 5 is ridiculously limited in early game options in comparison to earlier generations, and I like using one team throughout the game and capturing it as soon as possible.
I'll give you a hint: That situation changes rapidly.
I'm finding it very difficult to pick what team I want as there is a wealth of early options...except for water types.
I'm glad that they finally realized Water is gettng a tad bloated. I justy wish they'd quit making fucking pure water fish. Give them more alt typings or something .

I work at Walmart (granted, not electronics) and the game is there. It's a matter of when they'll put it out. I always see the large display branded with street date warnings for shit like this. Of course, any time prior to that is a no-go: the games will bring up a date check when scanned to avoid breaking street date.
It will depend on location and how competent your Walmart is. In my area, they'd be foolish not to have it out ASAP: not one of the Gamestops here is doing a midnight release, giving them quite an edge. They aren't advertising a midnight launch, so this likely means getting someone to fish it out. I pulled this off with New Super Mario Bros. Wii and have failed with other games (they CAN and SHOULD get it out, but don't want to bother).

I finally got ahold of someone at Walmart and he said if I fetched a manager at midnight they should sell it to me. Gonna try that as my first option, and I guess go to Gamestop in the morning if that doesn't work.
