Saying a common pokemon is "annoying" is a pretty narrow viewpoint. Isn't it more correct to say that getting into battles all the damn time is annoying? Who cares what the mob is, because you're just gonna run from it anyway.

Ahh. I don't think I've ever been in that situation, past the first gym. If anything, my pokemon almost always outlevel the wild pokemon by 10+ levels.
No, I was wrong, it is completely based on speed. The basic thing to know is that it is easier to escape the more times you try it and the faster you are and the slower your opponent is.

Woo Thepain73 and I got our copies a few minutes ago at Meijer! They had a guy bring out a box if them right at midnight. Black for me and White for him. Aww yea, can't wait to get home to start them.
yet it has people in very japanized clothes like salarymen, maids and secretaries. i always found that odd.
Cultural thing. Like how in Final Fantasy Tactics and other games based on medieval Europe you always have Ninjas running around besides the knights.

So my Celebi is not letting me fight Giovanni.
Nowhere on the internet does it mention another trigger. I haven't gotten very far in this game. I basically just want to do this event and transfer Celebi to White as soon as possible. What's the deal?

I bet you have to at least beat the radio tower to unlock it considering how the event goes.
I think they said they won't release an updated version. Don't quote me on that though.
There was a rumor that they said that, but it was a mistranslation and the original people clarified. It's very clear that they are planning on a Grey -- the 3rd of the Tao trio is in game (and very weak), for example. There's also stuff (items, mostly) that hints at a Gen 3 remake.
Apparently they took away every annoyance, rebalanced the game (by locking out older pokemon) to make it accessible for new players, and did the standard "new generation, new neat toys" like triple battles and the like.
Oh, and it actually has a plot. Still not a JRPG epic, but it's more than "find tourney, beat up guys".
It's not enough to convince the critics, but fans will probably be pleased.

I will admit, this bugged me, too. Seeing Kindergarden trainers in the typical Japanese hats and jumpers and nurses in pink outfits definitely comes off as more Japanesy. And then there's the crazy pair of Subway conductors. It's still very much an Easterned-made RPG.
At least they put in American Football and Basketball trainers, eh?

The only real annoyance I had was the grind. Is that gone? Because if so, sign me the hell up.

The Grind is still there but the game path is more linear and as such it's much easier to get through the game without power leveling.

So I'm going to go pick up my game at Wal-Mart in a few minutes, and at the last moment have decided to get White instead of Black. Yes Black is aimed more at competitive play. Yes Black has Houndoom. Yes Black is appealing to that thing that Avatar was secretly about and I forget whatitscalled now. That reason.
But White has the nucleus guy, and I have no use for Whimsicott, and for goddsakes we all know a third version is coming no matter what Nintendo says. They feed us sweet sweet lies and drink up our disappointment like nectar.
And the pre-5th-gen pokes I can just trade over, which leaves not a lot of version exclusives.

Everyone has their own definition of grind. Pokemon has no quests, so I guess the metric is Trainer Battles vs. Wild Battles -- i.e. how much can you skimp on trying to raise your Pokemon from random encounters and simply plow through the story parts. Otherwise, the very act of training, breeding, and acquiring money would be considered a grinding process here.
I would say, getting your Pokemon up to speed with the rest of your party is no longer an issue with scaling EXP based on level. But a lot Pokemon evolution numbers have been boosted way high because of that, meaning it can feel like a grind to get your little Larvesta up to Lv. 59 in order to evolve it into Volcarona.
They've swapped old key devices like the VS. Seeker and the PokeGear with more repeatable trainer battles. You still get things like EXP Share and Lucky Egg.

And if you run from them (from any pokemon, really) the encounter rate is supercharged for a bit -- so if you do just say hell with it and start running... you'll end up fighting a ton of random encounters.

So far I'm amazed at how much I like pretty much all of the new pokemon. I'm constantly torn about who has to get cut so I can make room for the next weird little thing.

Got my copies from Walmart. I had to ask 3 different people until they radioed and found someone with a working brain. Turns out they had stashed the games behind the counter they sell tobacco products, as that was the only register open.
I picked Oshawott. Turned out to be female. Am I lucky? It seems like when I tried to play D/P I could never find female starters on the wifi thing.

I'm checking bulbapedia and there's no reference to this
and i've never heard of this happening in any pre-release materials for the game
i need a source for this but until then i doubt this is a thing
Re: possible Gen III remakes, if they do them I hope they give you some kind of jetski or something for the water routes, or just anything that gives an excuse for eliminating the random battles on those routes. You could see what they were trying to do with the whole land/sea thing but the random battles spoilt that really.
I think it's interesting that I feel a lot less judgemental about the new Pokemon in Gen V than in previous generations. Because the line-up is all new I think it kind of gives them all an extra legitimacy. They're all part of a whole, rather than just a few 'mon stuck on the end of the original 150.
Random encounters were always an issue and B/W is really no different. I actually run from Boldores now, which I wouldn't have done in previous gens, because of you know what by now.

This game is too much fun. Everytime I think 'yeah, yeah, we've seen this before' something awesome shows up. Walking into the 4th gym only to discover that it's a
rollercoaster
was great. Then Servine proceeded to kick all the ass with Leech Seed/Mega Drain, the guy's invincible.
Oh shit, this is like, out?
This is going to be an interesting experience for me. I've gone into the last bunch of Pokemon games already knowing everything about them. I don't know a damn thing about this one! Hell, I only took one look at all of the pokemon, back when we first saw them.
Posts
you encounter him more
think of gen I or gen II
you only need to surf like
to get to one or two gyms
with gen III you have to surf EVERYWHERE
and it is the fucking worst thing
the problem is tentacools can poison
and running is not 100% effective
it's just like how zubats can confuse
or geodudes can explode
nope, running can and does fail
Five levels is enough to reduce it below half.
But I don't want to buy another game right now.
do we know yet
156 new pokémon all together, including event legendaries.
