There are at least six boobs in this game.

Can we infer that GoW2 will have at least twice as many? :P

I really really loved the original God of War; as a matter of fact I plan to play through it again before GoW2 comes out. It was the first game in awhile that I felt compelled to finish without being distracted by other games (which happens 9 times out of 10 lately, and is precisely the reason why my backlog is currently out of control). It wasn't super-long, but I was pleased that they didn't artificially extend the length with RE-style backtracking, etc. The combat was accessible, but also deep enough for those of us that had played DMC or Ninja Gaiden. GoW2 looks to be at least as good, and I can't wait to play it.

I think you could block or dodge roll to break your combos at any point but the finishing moves.
Also I tended to do the dmc3 philosophy of if you're in the air, nobody can hit you and its just you and them. So I would spend all my time in the air doing that airgrab.
The final boss battle fight is just the blades of artemis. Really, it isn't any different. Just like the blade of artemis, the final move in a combo creates serious lag and you can't block. So you hit him with the first bits and only finish the combo if he gets hit by the first moves. If he doesn't, you hold block/start dodging.
I loved the final boss, he was such a challenge.
He really did feel like the god of war.

Yeah, you could break out, but usually the combo enders were the ones you wanted, usually for the attack range (and they probably did more). Just a different beast than I thought I would get at first.

I wasn't as annoyed with the combat against Ares as what happened when you opened Pandora's Box. come on, you can justify anything, and instead that's the best the designers can do? Grr.

So, who's hoping that we can actually fight all the gods in GOW2? I know we'll have the colossus and Cerberus, but I'm kinda hoping we can beat down on the entire pantheon as well.

    I just beat the game.

The only parts I didn't see Wonderboy play were the upper levels of Pandora's Temple and everything in Hades.

And that's everything I did this afternoon.

I forgot how awesome the story is and loved all of the game, even Styx. I didn't have a ton of trouble with it, you just find the empty spot and stay in the middle til the next empty spot opens up and then you jump up.

A Mount Olympus level or something would be awesome.

They're all just partying up there all like "Hey Kratos" and he just starts kicking Zeus's ass.

I have had the game since it hit the greatest hit list, just beat it today(10 minutes ago). I was sitting bored over the weekend thinking what the fuck should I do to pass the time and then realized I had quit on GoW after getting a little bored in the rings of pandora.

Holy shit did I love that last fight, I can see people being frustrated with it because of the style change but since I love the blade of Artemis (only upgraded that and the blade of chaos) it felt pretty natural for me.

Man when the cut scene ended, all I could think of was, oh fuck yeah its on.

Will somebody explain to me why Pandora's Box made him huge? Everything else in the plot made some sort of sense.

Honestly, I'd be surpised if we don't end up on Mount Olympus at some point in the new game.

I thought it strange that the ability to kill a god is determined in physical size. But I guess they had to think up SOMETHING.

Bought the game after work today, and got past the Hydra. I'm playing other stuff, so I may not get back to it immediately.

This game on the hardest difficulty led to some of my most frustrating moments in gaming.

Kicking that crate with that dude up the slope, fuck that.
Killing those centaurs on those circles, fuck them.
Protecting them folks in the last battle. I wanted them to die.

Also God of War will get you laid.

I picked it up over winter break for the first time, it was pretty fun. However, I am not a fan of any of the platforming sections.

I'm looking at you River Styx.

Definitely worth $20. Also makes me wonder why there's so few greek/roman based games. The mythology offers a lot of fun possibilities, and hopefully we'll see more of it.
I've always thought this. It was this, Gladius, that other game that sounded like Gladius (one was the strategy RPG, one was the action game) and, uh, Battle of Olympus. That's all I can really recall. But it's such a rich setting.

God of War is well worth $20. It's a fun balls-to-the-wall action game, and what it lacks in depth (as compared to something like DMC3 or Ninja Gaiden) it makes up for by being so visceral. I'll never get tired of grabbing harpies, slamming them onto the ground, pounding on them with a big heel, then grabbing their wings and yanking back until they both snap off while they let out a screenching death cry.

It also nails that big, epic feeling that a game set in ancient Greece should have. The strings-and-vocal soundtrack, the biiiiiiig locales, everything. It's just a well-polished experience overall.
Shadow of Rome wasn't necessarily based on mythology, instead focusing on a really skewed version of a real historical event.

Still, it was a pretty good game with a Final Fight mentality and a lot of really cool boss fights. The only downside is that you have to experience these really shitty stealth sequences, but they're brief enough that they don't drag the game down too much.

In fact, I remember a time before this game came out, wherein I'd always talk about how much I wanted a game where you participated in gladiatorial matches. One with a real time, action oriented focus. Shadow of Rome gave me this in spades.

I don't want to derail the thread, but I was curious what the general forumer's opinion is about Titan Quest. I was thinking about picking this game up because of the greek mythology backround, but the fact that it just seems to be another Diablo clone hold me up from it until now.

I just got Titan Quest a few days ago on the cheap as a simple time killer. It is pretty much Diablo 2.5 but with newer graphics and a different, in my opinion better, class system.

Besides the fact it runs like shit I enjoy it and can't wait till my toon looks pimp.

Back on topic, I really really really want to play GoW after watching a speed-run and the videos for GoW2 but can't find it in my area and I've already got my plate full of video games. I'll probably wait for 2.

I'm with you all on the fact that any puzzle where you kick something vaguely box-like, can go to hell. Oddly enough, I never had any problem with the sacrifice box one. I just full charged a kick, ran up and caught him. Oh and the styx pillars, those nearly shattered my sanity. First of all, I'm now in a section that the game developers themselves never played secondly I died on those pillars in three ways.

+Normal damage accumulation, nothing special here.
+Get caught on the blades and get knocked THROUGH the wall and fall to the river below.
+Get trapped behind the pillar, for multiple hits and take massize damage (from full health) and DIE.

Naturally, I get to the top eventually and I'm thinking "Finally!" turn camera aannndd theres another one. By the end of Styx all I can think is
"I'm gonna half to rip every skele in hades in half before I'll feel better"

Just picked this game up, finally. And well.. I started playing it for 15 minutes about two hours ago. The begining is just so painful to me for some reason. I hate forced tutorials.

And hoping at least some sort of story will form aside from my room mate saying, "Yeah. He's this god or something and he wants his powers back. You won't finish it. Trust me, I know what you like."
And.. and maybe he does. I'm scared.

So, Challenge of the Gods. That bit with the very slowly raising platform and a constant stream of piss-hard, high knockback enemies who like to combo ALL THE TIME?

    It's hard.
