Amnesia : The Dark Descent is 50% off (9.99). In case i wasn't the only one who missed that, but that's pretty unlikely.
Quit trying to make me buy a game I know I won't be able to play outside of a small time window in the middle of the day, with the sound off, and my GF behind me reassuring me that it's just a game and nothing can actually come out of the screen.
Given that Valve are adding Steam functionality to the PS3 version of Portal 2, isn't there a good chance that any used copy will feature none of the internet-enabled functionality such as online co-op etc.?
Or in other words: Are Valve asking customers to tie the copy they buy to their PS3 Steam account in some way, thereby rendering the disc useless for anything but offline single player?
PS3 copy comes with a PS3 disc and a unique serial code.
You put that in your PS3, and on the menu for the PS3 version of Portal 2, there is an option to pair your PSN account with your Steam account.
There will also be the option to activate the unique serial code, which will then add Portal 2 to your Steam account.
Once that serial number is used up, you can use the disc version on any PS3, and pair it with your Steam account, but not be able to activate it on your Steam account any more.
They won't want to make it so the PS3 disc is useless to people buying it preowned, but they also won't want people to be able to generate infinite PC versions from just a PS3 disc.

Don't be a pussy, get the game! It's really, really, really good at what it does and it's worth full price, much less $10 measly dollars.

Very much agreed. Even if you only play for an hour, you'll get a great overview of the awesomeness/horror, and then you'll really just want to play more.

Hah, I know. I know. And ONLY because I was called out...
To be honest, stuff doesn't jump out of the game into the real world.
But it does materialize somewhere in your house.
But really, you get used to it after the first few times.
Speak for yourself, the atmosphere is always enough to wind me up tighter than a spring so I always flip when shit happens. Those guys know how to do horror, that's for sure.
It doesn't help that after about an hour if playing any game in my room I get this horrible scratching sound coming from the ceiling. I have an attic bedroom. Yeah.
Obviously I do know what it is, but logic goes out the window when playing Amnesia.

No, I mean the stuff materializing in your house. After a while you just learn to leave the lights on, and it gets better.
They won't want to make it so the PS3 disc is useless to people buying it preowned,
And why is that, because their strategy is exactly not to allow it. See steam.
They likely don't want to introduce mandatory online check (which is to say whoever has a disc can play offline SP without a trouble) but sure enough they can restrict online access to just one activated steam/psn account.

I wouldn't be surprised if they use the unique key they'll likely include to tie the multiplayer features to the Steam account, so that the disc can't be used for that by a different person.
How do I get into Darksiders? Every time I sit down to play it, I end up playing Guardian of Light, SMB, TF2, etc instead, since they're a 'faster paced' games. Only in the sense that in Darksiders it feels like I am constantly trekking through uninhabited wasteland for a while before getting to slaughter things, where in other games I have more instant gratification.

oh god portal post created too much interest.
how about this, whoever has paypal and wants paypal buckaroos buy a 2 pack of portal over steam and I'll paypal you my 40 bones immediately.
PM me if interested and then i'll just do first PM assuming I get any.
(I'd rather not be the person getting paid back through paypal cause I use paypal maybe once or twice a year and only have it linked to my CC and not my bank)
The only part of portal I even thought about looking a walkthrough for was this one room where the door was really high up and the only real way to get to it at least that I could figure out involved
floor to ceiling falling through it several times till I built up some super speed then mid fall shooting the ceiling portal onto the wall panel opposite the door across the room and I was going so fast it rocketed me over to the door.
Some parts of it where pretty devious though
That's the exact same map I immediately thought of. But I think you forgot some of it.
You had to do the ceiling to floor fall. Then mid-fall, shoot the ceiling portal across the room. Then, as you're flying across the room you had to turn 90 degrees and shoot the original floor portal across the room perpendicular to your flight path.
That was probably my favorite room. I pretty much knew right away what had to be done. Actually doing it, though, was another story.
I don't remember ever doing something that complex to solve a puzzle... do you know what room it was?
I spent most of today watching walkthroughs. I watched every test chamber before I remembered that there were "Advanced Rooms". Turns out it's not exactly as complicated as I remembered. But the room we're both talking about is definitely the beginning of Advanced Room 18.

Well, the thing is that it's not a slaughterfest, and going into the game expecting it as one is a mistake. It's basically a take on the Zelda formula, where combat is rather secondary to doing environmental puzzles and progressing.

Aha. I'll try it that way, then. I guess I was confused by the DMC3-style combat and weapon level-ups. Still, I loved the zelda games so hopefully I can get into Darksiders again. The controls and camera are a touch clunky, though. *shrug* Here's hoping!
Hey guys! Despite being terribly tempted, I haven't bought the Ubisoft deal. Only 6 minutes to go...I think I can make it!
I'm so sorry...I don't know what's wrong with me. I promise I'll be better when the summer sale comes along.
I'm sure there'll be an Easter sale you can fret over, so no worries!
Heheh, yup. I need to be good about Steam sales for the next little bit, let my finances recover from the shock of unexpectedly (hah!) having to buy a new 360.
But on the other hand, yay new 360! (I know, wrong thread.)

Get a gamepad, such as the Xbox 360 wired controller, you won't regret it while playing Darksiders.
I tried it once with KB+M when I bought it and downloaded it during the the Christmas Sale, and after playing it for like 15 minutes, I decided to wait and get a gamepad first.
It did wonders.

After not playing it for awhile due to getting to a point where I literally cannot do anything but die because my computer chokes on the 25+ enemies it throws at me at once, I try to uninstall it.
and it's literally installing the uninstaller. I now have Darksiders icons on my desktop, it's installing DirectX...
This is just stupid.
EDIT: NO I WOULD NOT LIKE TO GO TO ADOBE'S WEBPAGE TO INSTALL ADOBE READER SO I CAN READ THE COMIC.
I WOULD LIKE TO UNINSTALL THE GAME.
EDIT2:
Thank you for installing the installer! How helpful!
EDIT3: So it DID uninstall the game, Steam just installed the installer to be contrary. Now I have to uninstall the installer which hopefully does not reinstall the game, because current evidence shows...
A=Game installation
B=Installer installation
A=~B
EDIT4: Luckily uninstalling the Darksiders installer did not reinstall the game. That would have been very, VERY annoying.

Hah. Damn you!! It's bad enough I have to deal with the "28 day monster". I shouldn't have to worry about the time in between.

It seems to have gone up by $10 as soon as it was released in the US. I guess I can wait, then...
Being DA O and DA U.
I am going to wait for DA2 U this time.
Seems like I remember some of you guys wanting a sale on this, so here ya go.
^ This if you play JRPGs. Especially if you have a spare controller.

Interesting. This seems like a good deal, although I'm not sure it's crazy good enough to make me get in the face of my backlog.

Well, if you can tolerate some of the annoyances with the plot, and go in expecting a very linear narrative game instead of a GTA-style sandboxer.
I'm sure it's not related at all, but man a steam app would be nice.
Let you browse your friends, groups, do chat, browse the store, let you buy games/demos and have them download on your PC to wait for you to get home.
It would be pretty nice.
