So Firefox 3 is fuckin' slow. How's the FF4 beta?

Fifrefox has been getting aggressively slower for awhile now. I've tried several suggestions from Google but nothing seems to work. Flash is especially slow (the current animated flash ads on www.wowhead.com fucking MURDER FF).

So how is the beta? Is it good enough to use? Is it faster?

I really don't wanna use Chrome due to how it changes key binds I'm very used to it.

Thanks!

Have you tried updating your flash AND installing something like adblocker? I checked out the site and realized I don't even see the ad with adblocker installed.

That particular bit of flash murdered chrome, too (until I blocked it anyway.)

That being said I recently started using chrome for general browsing again, and it seems a lot faster than the firefox build.

I installed AdBlock and I'm not sure what happened but Firefox started to take like 2 minutes to load and would kill Windows in the process.

I uninstalled all of Firefox and it seems fast again, though I don't have AdBlock or NoScript installed yet.

    Hrm.

Firefox getting slower = probably something chewing up your profile. If you deleted your profile while uninstalling, that would definitely speed it up.

The beta does include some improvements in performance, particularly how often Firefox writes to disk (previously, too often). The release candidate is scheduled for next week, so grabbing that may work for you.

I can't see any reason not to use flashblock with firefox. If there was one plugin I'd say I couldn't live without that would be it. No flash running by default but all the flash bits are put into the page as empty boxes can be started as you like just by clicking on them.

FF3 was always incredibly slow for me but the FF4 betas have been amazingly fast. Your mileage may vary though.

The JavaScript engine in FF3 is quite slow when compared to other browsers.

I think the current order of browser speed is this

    IE9 > FF4 > Chrome > FF3

But I haven't looked at the IE9 or Chrome9 benchmarks lately.

Chrome 10 JavaScript performance I think is the fastest. ie9 is pretty good also, don't know about the others.
