I'm trying to decide between these two cameras

PowerShot SD600 vs. PowerShot A540

On the one hand the SD600 has
a smaller body :)
a higher consumer/editor rating and :)
lithium battery :)

where as the A540
higher optical zoom :)
more features :)
cheaper :)
auto/manual focus :)
but takes 2 double a's :(
slightly lower rating :(

I have the powershot sd630 and I like it a lot. I wish it had image stabilization, though. Battery life is pretty good and you can take really quick pictures if you turn image review off.

The problem about the double a's is voided once you get some rechargeable batteries, which everyone should have anyways.

Do rechargeable batteries last as long? I hear the more frequently you recharge them the weaker and shorter their lifespan.

I've had a pack of 6 rechargeables since I got my Wii on December 17th. I haven't noticed a reduction in charge length yet.

And your fear of rechargeables is also there for the lithium battery as well. In fact, I think the lithium is more prone to power memory than normal rechargeable batteries.
