So, I'm trying to import two feature-length movies into iMovie HD for the purposes of making a music video. They're both a gig and change each and in mp4 format. Mp4 (as far as I know) should be completely compatible with most any version of iMovie, and both files play perfectly fine in QuickTime. However, when I import them into iMovie, all I get is a black screen when I try to view or edit the clips, not to mention I cannot drag them to the timeline. I also have Perian installed, so I don't think it's a codec issue.
Does this problem sound familiar to anyone? Any suggestions?

When you open them in Quicktime, hit Cmd-I to see what actual codec they're using - Mpeg4 or H264 should be fine in iMovie, but anything else is... well, not guaranteed.
