I have a directory with music or movies. How do I add them so they all play [ala play list] (from the explorer, windows).

    View -> playlist (ctrl+l)

    If you drag and drop groups of files them directly onto vlc it will form a playlist automatically, though sometimes it gets them out of sequence.

    Unfortunately, it doersn't have a feature like mpc, where if you start playing a file within a folder, you can automatically skip through the other files in that folder without having to form a playlist.

    You can right-click on the folder and select "play with VLC media player" or "add to VLC playlist." You can also click and drag the folder into the VLC window.
