and in my line of work, three dots with spaces in between looks crazy awkward onscreen and also eats up valuable character limit real estate, so thankfully nobody goes for that
if you're worried about character limits, there is a single character ellipsis in unicode. Behold …
i could be wrong, but it's possible that the folks in japan had issues with the unicode ellipsis thingy and it became a pain in the ass for everyone
or maybe we just didn't like how it looked onscreen. that's how i make most of my editorial decisions these days
one nice thing about teaching in japan, none of my students or fellow teachers seemed to know or be interested in anything grammar-related. all they wanted was swear words and animal names. life was good

I do the same thing with Street Fighter 4. I am nowhere NEAR able to play on that level, but I've watched it enough that I understand a lot of the intricacies of what is going on.
