All,
This is the PC I brought to PAX East 2011:
Wanted to share it here, as it was hidden in the BYOC area at PAX, which meant only 218 PC gamers and select enforcers & media were able to view it.
It started as a cheap desktop ATX case...
...until I added some PVC pipe arms and black iron gas pipe legs:
I modded the faceplate and laid down some wire mesh before forming the face with air-dry clay:
I built a base from pine and birch-veneer plywood. Next I ran some cables through the base to support a powered USB hub, DVD burner, media card reader, and power button / HDD LED. The eyes were made of ping pong balls with white LEDs behind them, and the base is friction-fit using black iron fittings. The bottle is attached with copper leads from a strand of romex wiring. Finally the limbs were covered with air-dry clay, and filled with Bondo glazing putty and sanded.
Next came the prime, paint, detailing, and clearcoat...
Before final assembly. Specs:
585W HEC Orion Power Supply
MSI mATX motherboard
Intel Core i5 750 CPU
8GB DDR3 memory
2 x 750GB HDDs (I have 2 x 40GB SSDs to install, but haven't had time)
Slim slot-load DVD burner (mouth) and DVD +/-RW in base.
Div was packed in a custom crate with mattress pad foam and double-packed into a full steamer chest for the drive to Boston:
Before being unpacked and using half the crate as a stand in the BYOC area:
Coolest part? I got Mike and Jerry to sign the case lid!
