I'm in platinum, where it starts to become bullshit. You pretty much have to get as close to perfect as possible to 3-star some of them.
Can't imagine what Diamond will be like when I finish 3-starring everything in platinum
I dunno.
I just picked a random hanglider mission in platinum (unlocked it last night) and it wasn't too bad. I only got 10 points on one of the speed rings, and I entirely missed one of the spinning circles and like 5 balloons, and it still gave me 3 stars.
The one that I was finding particularly rage inducing was the target landing with the rocket belt.
In fact, I just plain hate the rocket belt, its a piece of shit. But I did just 3 star that one finally

I tried getting 3 stars on Platinum stages before I did so for the other stages and I lost pretty hard. Then I went back and 3-starred everything and by the time I got to Platinum I was ready and it was a cinch.
Now I'm on Diamond and I don't think anything could prepare me for this.
Played a bunch of Face Raiders yesterday with friends, stealing faces from a Star Trek calendar and google image search.
Shooting balls into Kirk and Bones' faces (also Mary Elizabeth Winstead and a random dog) pretty much convinced them to get a 3DS.
Also I drove by a kid by the side of the road holding his 3DS oustretched like some kind of divining rod, didn't have anyone new in my Streetpass though, I wonder how long it needs to exchange information.
It could have been that said kid did not have StreetPass turned on.
I'm not sure how you toggle it on and off exactly as I don't have any hands on time with the 3DS besides the Best Buy demo, but I know you can choose to have it turned off just like you could choose to not share Mii's with other people on the Wii. There are probably some people that might have it turned off accidentally? I'm not sure what you would gain by not having it active.
There was someone on the footpath today playing a 3DS and I walked past him four times, with mine asleep with streetpass on in my pocket, and got nothing. Either he had Wifi off or it needs longer than the time it takes to walk past someone, which seems unlikely given the name streetpass.
I got my first StreetPass hit yesterday. I took the train to go to the Cubs game and got one hit. I've had a weird problem with my 3DS though. It turns itself off when I walk to school, and again yesterday at the game as well.
I'm starting to suspect its the cold, as my iPod used to do the same thing when I was outside with it for too long in cold weather. When I notice it's off I can turn it right back on with no problems, and my battery is full as well.
I'm going to buy the Nyko battery from Best Buy this morning, so I'll report back with details in a day or so once it's charged and I've had time to test it. But everything I've heard so far about it has been fantastic. Any long-term problems, naturally, won't come out until later but I really don't like having to consciously manage the 3DS's battery life. Buying the bigger PSP battery was one of the best buys for the system.
The only problem I may have is that the case I just bought probably won't fit it. If anyone here wants to buy it, maybe?

I use one of the Club Nintendo DS pouches. Large enough to fit an XL, so it would be able to hand the extra bulk of the nyko battery quite easily I imagine.
Well I just beat the main story mode of Ghost Recon Shadow Wars! The activity log shows 21 hours 12 minutes and my completion rate is 27%. This is from playing through completely on easy mode, with a couple major flubs that resulted in playing a few missions over again, and doing a couple missions on hard mode to see what it was like. I still need to do all the skirmish/challenge missions and replay the game in hard mode.
Also 90% of the people who made this game have last names ending in "ev" or "ov." It got to where I was thinking it was a joke as I watched the credits. Made me wonder what they think of a game about Russians going militaristically crazy.
By the end of the game the story had improved quite a bit in my opinion. Still no blockbuster or anything that required me to use my brain at all, but it gets better than "walk across this field and kill dudes" or "protect the town."
The last skirmish mission you unlock is kinda cool.
Zombie survival! You start with four generic dudes and for every few zombies you kill you earn a command point that lets you upgrade one of your men into one of the Ghost classes. I didn't get far since I started it on hard mode, they take a lot of hits to kill.
Toward the end of the game I switched most characters' secondary weapons to EMP grenades or other vehicle-damaging weapons - they become very important. On the subject of the various characters:
Banshee was my MVP. She was useful in the early game but as soon as you get her knife she becomes amazing. Later on you can kill a man with Rapid Strike, kill another (filling her meter again), recharge her, Rapid Strike another man, kill another one, etc. I could send her to take out half the battlefield on her own. Later on she becomes slightly less useful due to more vehicles coming into play (though hilariously you can shank a jeep to death). Still, every time I had a choice, I put her on my team.
Saffron (the healer) goes from "meh, useful" to "holy crap, this is great!" Later on you get a stim upgrade to your secondary medical kit that lets you reactivate people for a second move/attack. This is the point that I stopped healing altogether. It's so useful to have people attack a second time, or simply move quickly to a location.
Duke also goes from "why are you even here" to "oh my god thank you." His heavy launcher is necessary for survival later on against hordes of drones. You can use Wide Burst to take out 3 or more at once and be immediately charged up for another Wide Burst. Eventually I was searching out those green refill crates for him all the time.
Richter and Mint were kind of average/solid team members. Mint's EMP gun becomes a boon later. I always used his turret and not the drone because the turret can lay suppressing fire, which I used liberally all throughout the game, it's nice to be able to lock down two enemies in any given encounter.
And Haze the sniper was actually kind of less-used for me, he's nice but doesn't put out the kind of damage the others can. By the end he can shoot an incredible distance though.
Overall it's a really great game that will last you quite a while.
Finally also got my hands on one of these things. I bought Street fighter, Ghost Recon, Pilotwings and the star wars game. So far liking them all except the star wars one. The 3d is amazing. When playing SSV and looking over the shoulder of one of the dudes is amazing! Also really like all the little nifty things they added.
The major bad thing about it is the weird smutches that get left behind on the top screen after having it closed for a while. My 3ds is in a bigben case all the time when im not playing so i wasnt expecting this. Any ideas except lol nintendo?
edit: Also already added a couple of PAl guys to my friendlist
As far as StreetPass goes, I know for a fact that I've got a couple of gamers living in my apartment (when I look for a WiFi signal I can see their PS3) and young kids, so I'm hoping they'll be into the 3DS enough that I can make them perma-StreetPass buddies.
I still have not been able to get mine due to $$$ complications, but it won't be much longer now. Were there still some good deals going around? I'd rather get the physical media in person rather than from Amazon.com, but if they've got the better discounts I'm all for it.
The plan is to make sure I get it before the Easter holiday when I go visit the family, so I can go show my young cousins the device. I know they all have DS's, so turning the 3DS into the center showpiece of the trip and converting them to 3D-eonites will be a breeze.

Same thing here. I dont think its a bad game it just is a lot less exciting then the other games. I just played it a little bit more and i just cant really get in to it, wich is a shame cause these games are usually good fun.
Bought Ghost Recon yesterday. As I expected, it's my favorite of the launch titles. I mean...I've onyl played Ridge Racer 3D beyond it, but aside from SSFIV (don't like fighting games), I can kinda gauge all the other launch titles. Ghost Recon brings back some great Advance Wars-equse memories...
...in fact, I just went down and dug my Advance Wars DS game out of storage and am totally playing it right the fuck now.
They really need to make another Advance Wars game. Cartoon wars in 3D please.

A week of taking my 3DS to work resulted in a disappointing, but not surprising, zero street pass hits I was hoping a scientific research centre would have a few more closet geeks around but apparently no such luck.
Oh well, at least I'm getting coins for my cat army.
I'm enjoying Shadow Wars, it's good and it's fun, but it lacks a lot of the depth of great games like Fire Emblem and Valkyria Chronicles and XCom and Jagged Alliance. For one thing, the missions are entirely self-contained, meaning that none of the actions and decisions you make in a mission are relevant after you've finished it. No character death means that there's no failure, because if anything goes wrong you just restart the mission. My biggest annoyance is that there are only 6 character classes, and you get exactly one of each. My favourite thing about replaying Fire Emblem is that you get a great big cast of characters to choose from, so you can customise your team exactly how you want it, whereas I don't see myself replaying Shadow Wars much because I'll be using the same characters with the same skills, so I'll be doing pretty much the same thing.
It's still a good game that's worth the money, but it's not going to be like XCom or Jagged Alliance, where people are still talking about it and playing it years later.
No character death means that there's no failure, because if anything goes wrong you just restart the mission.
How is that any different than Fire Emblem?
Sure, most people just restart the mission when someone dies, but it's not part of the game. In Shadow Wars if someone dies the game stops. Game over, try again. In Fire Emblem a lot of people savescum, sure, but the game doesn't stop when someone dies. Failure is something that happens and you have to deal with it and keep going.
What I really need are memorable (i.e. bizarre + wacky) characters COMBINED with tactical awesomeness. Everybody in Shadow Wars is so... generic. Alternatively, just give them implied personality like in X-Com. Or... uh... port over X-COM. But better.

-Story is simple. The four tribe heroes disappeared. Super Bad Dino is wrecking shit. Make 4 new Tribe heroes, one from each tribe. Ending: Beat the end boss
-Customization is simple but neat. Pick a dino model. Pick a skin pattern (like flames) and pick 3 colors (green skin, black flames, blue belly).
-Graphics are good. High powered 3D (like pilotwings), that if it's your first day, max power 3D will give you a head ache. But now max 3D looks great.
-Progression (improving character stats) is equipment drops like diablo lite. 3 Equip slots. Even set bonuses. Simple, neat, and a billion useless shit.
-Game world is a hallway. Follow this path, swerve a bit so you run into everything looking for unlockables, reach a boss fight. 1 Stage is 3 mini bosses, then 1 boss.
-Fights are QTE. Four dinosuar classes. All of that class have the same pattern. Timing window shortens on harder versions. Final boss of game has a unique pattern. Fight can vary by preference: win by ring out or by Knock Out. Customize your dinosaur to that purpose.
-The whole game: 4 Nations, each with 5 stages. After beating each nation, there's a final stage that is an immediate boss fight. So 21 stages total. Roll credits.
-Replayability?: Each nation is a different class of dinosuar. There are several dinosaurs in each classes type. You can play each one through their nation with no change other than their model; animations are the same. You can keep killing hte end boss for more drops. You can play more races to collect the bones that unlock stuff. One play though gave 230 of the 350 bones needed to unlock everything. You can use streetpass to- I don't fucking know like anyone else has this game. Same goes with equipment trading.
End Score: 10/10. I'm bias, and defending this game because I spent money on it. Really though I enjoyed it but only because I LIKE QTE and I LIKE REPEATING THE SAME SHIT OVER AND OVER. Also god dammit, dinosaurs fighting in 3D.
*I* had fun, but I'm pretty sure a lot/everyone won't like this game. Also I'm a QTE whore and my favorite game of all time is Space Ace.
Oh and you unlock fun dino facts. I only read one, but I learned this one dinosaur probably farts a lot. Like. All the time. Digests by fermentation, so it's a walking kim chi stench cloud 24/7.
So how does Streetpass work? I've got two streetpass hits, there are now three people in my plaza, but I can't use either of the Miis I just met in the quest game, and I don't have any more puzzle pieces.

There was a rumor that Monster Hunter 3DS would be announced next month (although the rumor begun in March, so “next month” is actually this month). It’s difficult to understand the translation of the source, but the theory stands that Capcom was meant to announce Monster Hunter 3DS on March 13th. The earthquake struck though and that changed those plans. Supposedly this announcement has been shifted to Capcom Captivate 2011 which kicks off on April 6th. Anyone able to do a “real” translation though?
...a Chinese reader shared the following translation:
It has been rumoured that “Monster Hunter” will be out on the 3DS even before its launch, and has now been confirmed by an employee who works for a company which translates games from Japanese into English. “Monster Hunter 3DS” does exist and it was originally to be announced on 13th of March in the Fukuoka conference and the “Monster Hunter Festa 11″ in many other places
…and:
But we all know that these events have been cancelled due to the recent earthquake. However, as the famous producer Yoshinori Ono has admitted that there will be many new game launches on the 3DS in the future, those who hope Monster Hunter to be on the 3DS can be looking forward to hearing this new game from the Capcom Captivate 2011 next month.”
TGBus has been the source of leaks in the past, so I have a good feeling about this one.
