Assuming the job is awesome, is Rapid City a nice place to be?
Obviously, it has the Black Hills, and there are a handful of other more tourist-oriented attractions, but other than that... what is there to do there? Cool places to go? I'm especially interested in social dancing opportunities of nearly any type (swing, salsa, ballroom, etc) and anything D&D/board game related, but any hints/tips/suggestions/insights (or warnings!) regarding the place would be great!
I have only visited, but I have family there. They love the weather generally, except for what sounds like occasionally bad snow times. I thought the whole mountains/hills part of the Black Hills was great. Lakes and things too. Not just flat nothingness like if you drive towards Wyoming or whatever. Also, baby buffalos. Couldn't speak to nightlife or geek pursuits, unfortunately. There seemed to be a lot of art galleries and museums (at least locally-focused ones), and one local winery we visited, which was pretty cool.
Oh, and Sturgis. If you're into bikes and/or bikers. Heh.
Thanks for the tips! I lived in MN for a few years, so bad snow times do not faze me. Wine isn't really my thing, but I'll definitely look into the museums (and wee buffalos!)
