I don't feel a grind in TERA at all, which confuses me when people use that term. If anything, the game feels pretty methodical in moving you around the world. Each "zone" has three to four areas, each area has three to four outposts, each outpost three to four quests. With breadcrumb quests leading you from one to the next.
There are repeatable "kill X mobs" quests but, at least up to level 20, there's been no absolutely no reason to do any of them in an effort to catch up in level. They're nice for obtaining rare quality gear with the tokens you earn for completion, but by no means necessary.
Yeah I was asking that because I kind of agree with TheRealDestian and Sea of Thorns... Friday night I played about 4 hours and was level 12. I was just doing quests and stuff... nothing special...
God, what is with all the quests that have you talk to someone....then they have you talk to someone 3 feet away from them. And this can happen multiple times, in a group of people....all standing right next to each other. it's infuriating.

Trends I'm noticing as the levels raise. I neglected it during this beta but now I understand why everyone cam gather everything. You're most likely meant to be using those buffs. Even if you don't plan to use any of the mats directly
So, I had a chance to try this out briefly (maybe two hours worth) this weekend, and I really enjoyed it substantially more than I thought I would. Planning on pre-ordering this to get in on the Early Access; are the PA guilds going to consolidate post-closed beta wipe?

I hope to just to have the maximum amount of people to play with from here. We'll have time to figure it out between now and open beta though.

So my friend finally got a line back from one of EME's people concerning his crippling lag. Apparently this is a thing that is happening. With certain ISPs
Friend: Enmasse contacted me.
Me: Oh? How'd that go?
Friend: They are worried. They see the ISP causing problems
Me: Fucked up if it's true.
Friend: Yeah they said the traceroute is upsetting, I told him it was weird. I can read a traceroute. I think it's treating it as P2P traffic.
Friend: WoW had the same problem. When it switched to P2P traffic for its networking, it caused problems. SHAW would lag the shit out of it
Friend: You would log in. Would run fine. Then get slower and slower and slower. Ping would be around 900-1400ms. Blizzard chewed the shit out of Shaw and they uncapped those ports.
Another fun open beta. I have cemented Mystic as the class I want to play at release, with some Slayer and Warrior on the side.
Had something interesting happen this weekend. I logged in on my Slayer and found him in the middle of whatever field he was in the last time I logged out. Proceeded to just kill whatever was in front of me, regardless of quest status, loot, etc., and, you know what?
I had a good time!
This is the first MMO where I'll just log in to kill stuff. Combat is just so fun!

yeah, Fat rabbit mystic is where I'm heading. The land of milk and honey, brother.
So we get stiff once in a while. So we have a little fun. What’s wrong with that? This is a free country, isn’t it? I can take my panda any place I want to. And if I wanna buy it a drink, that’s my business.

I haven't played a berserker or warrior yet. Tried out archer and lancer this time around with some time to get my Sorc up to level 30. Slayer stayed parked. Lancer was interesting, still working on the timing to block attacks. I also managed to queue a number of attacks a few times so I was flailing away after my opponent was dead. Getting to level 20 and adding runes to powers made bigger booms that is a plus for the ranged DPS side of things. I was making a fair amount of cash from the mid 20s, but also blew a lot on runes, buying the wrong identify scrolls, and messing with enchanting.
Having a hard time deciding what to go with at launch. Lancer, mystic, sorcerer or archer...
Hopefully there are enough people interested to have some active groups. Can solo a bit of stuff, but the groups make it go by easier.

I'm tempted to just throw open the doors of our guild to all PA forumers for all your PvE server needs because I've found the PA community to be so awesome...

Tips for other mystics:
I learned a bit late that if you solo a lot like me, you're going to want to carry an extra weapon with something resembling dps stats on it, along with two sets of crystals. One set for doing damage to things and another for healing stuff (usually translates to mana regen crystals) Crystals that give hp/or mp regen as conditional and ones that return mp each time you deal damage are also good to have along with crystals that do damage to the monsters you will most likely be dealing with the most, which is basically normal and small sized critters.
For a damage rotation you really don't have many damage spells but you have a terribly large amount of situationals and utility spells. Your soloing time will be spent stacking your dot on a mob 3 times before circle strafing, going "Oh shit, oh shit!" while using your conal aoes on cooldown, stopping only to refresh your dot. More than likely either calling in your ranged pet for extra damage or your "tank" pet (he's pretty useless) as a temporary distraction. He does shit all for damage but he has the health pool of a champ, letting him take 1 or 2 direct shots from even BAMs before falling.
Mystics lack a self heal and it's a pain in the ass to drop health motes in the heat of battle, and too inefficient to set them up before each fight outside of a dungeon setting. So that means liberal use of your thrall of life. The fairy has some healing chops on her! Don't be afraid to bring her out to support your normal healing also.
Mystic spells use a lot of mana, mana management is probably going to be the greatest challenge to mystics early on outside of getting pugs to pick up your gumballs of wonderfulness. You want to use mana infusion every chance you get. mostly that means before and after a combat round. But if you're fast you can sneak it in after a teleport. This spell is your primary means of regaining mana from the moment you get it and is incredibly useful in any scenario. The only downside is that the effect ends the moment you take hostile damage or take a hostile action. You want to glyph this ability for the faster cast and bigger return as soon as you are able to.
Your other important skill is Teleport Jaunt. you get this ability early for a reason. Glyphed, it has a 25% chance to reset its own cooldown, making you the most mobile of the two healers and will keep you alive more often than not. Speaking of glyphs, while leveling you probably want to focus your attention on offensive reduction and mana cost reduction glyphs of your most used spells. What little damage you do, you want to do as quickly and efficiently as possible in a solo environment.
Every once in a while, you'll aggro two sets of mobs/mobs+minions or monsters that like to provide buffs to their little friends. Sleep the pack leader of the extra pull and drag the rest of the monsters away from it and don't be afraid to keep Mire handy to strip buffs.
Dungeon tips:
Make sure beforehand that in a pug, people are semi familiar with how Mystic healing works. Never make assumptions! Assumptions of what people know and don't know lead to failure encounters like the one in that youtube video I posted some pages back. At the risk of sounding like an asshole, stress that your direct heal is to be reserved for the tank and that dps are expected to heal themselves using your orbs unless it's a dire emergency. Health orbs not only act as a Heal over Time but also as a portable debuff cleanser. Dps don't like hearing these things sometimes but there is very little "unavoidable" damage in this game. That is to say that you're not completely without responsibility and mostly that thing comes down to common sense. If one of your dps is a berserker, realize that they are even less mobile than a lancer and are usually glued to the Boss by design. Shooting the poor guy a titanic favor once in a while isn't going to break your back. For Slayers, Archers, Sorcs and Warriors, well....they have that mobility for a reason. It won't kill them to stop mashing buttons for a couple of seconds to pick up a ball of goodness if they take a bad hit. Or maybe it will!
So we get stiff once in a while. So we have a little fun. What’s wrong with that? This is a free country, isn’t it? I can take my panda any place I want to. And if I wanna buy it a drink, that’s my business.
Well I managed to make it through the beta weekend without breaking down and buying the game just so I could play. :P I think at this point I'm pretty settled on purchasing it, even if Diablo III will interfere with the play time.
I'm most torn on whether I'm going to play a Sorcerer or Archer mainly, as after much trial I seem to enjoy being at range more than being right up close, though as a melee side-char, I'll probably go Berserker.

Final closed Beta/Open beta and other info:
We hope to have the official server list up after CBT5. We will be basing the initial number of servers on pre-order sales so we can't make that call today. We have a rough idea but it may sway up or down a couple.
Soon as we know the list you will know the list.
And the thread that is floating around isn't completely accurate, you may see some of those names but the PvE and PvP won't be right.
The only confirmed server name and rule set is Celestial Hills which is an RP-PvE server.
NA CBT5 info:
Closed Beta Test 5: April 6-8
Our fifth closed beta will bring it all together: the search for Elleon, the battle against the Cult of Lok, and the promise of more to come...
Closed Beta Test 5 Information:
Maximum Level: 38
Character Slots per Server: 3
Servers: Arachnaea (PvE), Serpentis Isle (PvE), Dragonfall (PvE),
Valley of Titans (PvP), and Jagged Coast (PvP)
Duration: Friday, April 6 at 12:00 PM Pacific to Sunday, April 8
at 11:59 PM Pacific
Also it seems they're taking a deeper look at battlegrounds after the data and feedback provided about how NA and EU players pvp in general and are now reworking them to be added back in post release with these changes.

I need to decide if I'm sticking with popori, the gentleman's choice or rolling human for my mystic. I mean, Popori are road dogs (In some cases literally) But I'm really digging the Evil Lynn vibe on a lot of the female human cloth sets.
Ah. Oh well... I can't afford to pre-order and play right now anyway. Stupid ass work screwed me over on my vacation pay so I'm back to breaking even instead of getting ahead for a change.

Is it bad to wish for a cooking profession in this game? I mean, it's mostly fluff but it'd be nice as a support profession. Plus I just want one of those ridiculously giant hats the popori and elin specialist npcs wear

Vote early and often?
Sort of torn on cbt5 plans. Want to try out berserker and warrior. Also wondering if I want to get the sorc past 32 and maybe try out the CR dungeon. Then there is the level 12 lancer over on Serpentis Isle...

We created a guild for just this purpose.
By "grindy", do you mean that you feel you need to kill 1000 monsters before you go up a level (in typical Asian MMO fashion)?

If by "grindy", you mean you level so fast you feel the game slipping out from under you, then yes.
Seriously, just got to a new area that I hadn't even seen and yet already outleveled long before I got there...

Also, as a Zerk I was able to snatch aggro away from our Priest, who yanked it from the Lancer, in one of my groups. That was one happy Priest.

Every ranged class does more damage in melee range than at max range with their attacks, not just Archer.
