I would expect a hybrid model long before a straight FTP game.

Easiest way I've found is clicking them and clicking inspect. It's a bit tough to do if they are bearing down on you so I tend to back off until I have a chance to check them.

Also if you are having a really hard time in an area with ganks you can switch channels.

With monsters pointing your reticule over them will show you their level beneath and to the side of it. I imagine it's the same with players?

yeah but it's really small, hard to read when someone is about to jump you. I guess upping the size of the crosshairs will also increase the size of that?

sucks not being able to quickly read someone level on a horse. I hope this game gets mod support....~_~

yeah, can't do this anymore, think I'm done till character wipe and I can roll on a PVE server during open beta. I don't think I have ever encountered a more ass backwards death system in a mmo, or ever will for that matter.

    1. die, teleport back to town in another time zone. why you ask? stop asking questions.
    2. sit for 2 minutes to regain your stamina
    3. ride 5+ minute back to the spot you were at
    4. kill 2 monsters, maybe do a little gathering for a buff or two
    5. die again to random level 300 ganker
6 .repeat for several hours. no, they don't get bored.

This is not how you do world pvp, sorry.

I am looking forward to playing this in live.

Open beta starts April 19th for preorders and 20th for non-preorders and is open to everyone, no code needed.

If you preorder, you keep your progress into retail.

Welcome to why I picked PvE.

Want PvP? Do deathmatches. They're ridiculous amounts of fun, even as a healer, despite the fact that I spent 90% of the time evading the attacks of the enemy team, shouting "WOO! WOO! WOO!" like Curly from the Three Stooges the entire time...

Get good at them and you can place bets on the outcome, be it money or items. Great for sparring and fantastic as a competitive medium for PvP. :)

As near as I can tell, crafting in this game is beyond stupidly expensive.

And you can't store certain crafting components in the bank, so I hope you like carting them around.

Take away lesson, don't take up the crafting quests off of the bulletin board in the tutorial.

    Don't do those quests.

Those need to be removed and we've been pressuring EME to remove them for months now. Maybe they'll be gone in open beta.

Yeah, EME answered some bugs about those. Think they might stay, but will be labeled differently. Hell there is a board on Isle of Dawn where you can pick up those mass crafting quests. The individual crafting isn't bad.

Last beta I bought some glyphs(?) and thought I had equipped them into my powers. This time around I noticed you had actually spend points to enable them. So buy into bag, click from bag into powers, then open power sheet and go to the page where they have the point amount to enable and decide which you can turn on. My one big cast magic spell got MP reduction and larger damage.

Can anyone elaborate on the game play differences between 'Zerker and Slayer? At the early levels they seem identical aside from one wearing metal armor and the other wearing leather. Is it a safe bet that the Slayer get more mobility skills later to make up for the lack of armor?

Yeah and they dodge instead of block. They are also less bursty damage wise, more sustained damage from a lot more hits rather than just big ones. Also, all of the Berserker big skills are charge-ups.

    Zerker = PVE
    Slayer = PVP

Basically the Zerker has higher burst, but needs to be fairly stationary to charge up his attacks. He also has less knockbacks and stuns.

The slayer does less burst but has more dodges , gap closers, and mobility in general coupled with more knockdowns and stuns making them better suited for PvP. Both are similar early on but you start to notice the differences around lvl 20ish.

Zerks aren't great at solo PvP but excel in group PvP.

A zerk is basically a a mobile hiding spot for a healer: Someone tries to attack the healer, the zerk AoEs them away. Someone tries to kite the zerk, the healer heals the zerk and/or CCs the kiter so the zerk can one-shot them with a full charge.

Are you implying that Slayer is not suited for PvE?

The two are typically apples and oranges, so I would appreciate comparing the utility of either in PvE or PvP. I am more interested in PvE applications, to be honest.

Absent tone, what I just wrote there seems to me to come across as snippy, but that wasn't my intention. I was just looking for something more comprehensive.

No no Both can work fine in PvE and PvP I'm just pointing out that they are specialized a bit. I agree that Zerks are good for Group PvP because of their AoE and Slayers do just fine in PvE as well.

For just PvE the Zerks have the armor, the block and the damage to be real powerhouses. You just need to move around a lot (as in just walk around) in order to avoid big hits when neccessary. Luckily later on your charge up moves (some of them) get a mobility factor to them where you can charge while walking slowly.

Slayers on the other hand have a harder time early on in PvE as they don't get real big heavy hitters or combos until around lvl 18ish. Once you get your Overhead move that chains off of pretty much any ability your PvE prowess goes up considerably. I had a tough time with Slayer up to that point but once you get there PvE is a blast.

With Slayer you need to time your dodge, stun (with coupled back step) and general mobility to make the most of your moves. With Zerker you can just block attacks, charge up your big hits and power down foes.

Both do just fine in PvE, but I would say Zerkers have the edge with the sheer damage they can output from their charged attacks. You don't see many slayers soloing BAM's but you see lots of Zerkers do it.

On the other hand in grouped PvE I think both would do just fine with the Tank making sure they have aggro. They both dish out lots of damage and have tools to keep them safe from BAM attacks.

It boils down to whether you want a more mobile or stationary playstyle. Or whether you like Big Axes over Big swords, or the looks of Heavy armor over Light.

Hopefully that helps a bit :D

For me it was hard to decide but I think I finally decided on Slayer today after getting both up to around lvl 22. I like the mobility of Slayer, and the combos of Overhead slash. Even though I love the charge up skill and massive burst of Zerks I think I just feel too slow with them. Plus I do plan on doing a lot of PvP so I like moving around more. (It is easier for Slayers to get away from a fight than Zerks in my experience, also easier to catch a fleeing opponent)

I really love the way the female Amani look... I keep wanting to play one, but I just haven't quite figured out which class I most want to match up with one. I might go with Sorcerer, but the heavy armor does definitely look badass on them. I even tried doing an Aman archer, but it doesn't quite look right to me. :P

On the Slayer vs Zerker thing, I find myself squarely in the Berserker camp. I really love their slow, deliberate playstyle, smashing things and blocking attacks. I've tried on several occasions to play a Slayer, and I don't hate them... but when I want a faster, more mobile melee fighter, I prefer Warrior. Unfortunately, I suck at warriors but look forward to the changes EME has been mentioning.

Minerva, why are you riding back out from town instead of teleporting for chump change?

Also I just pay the Papal Popori to fully heal my stamina if I don't feel like waiting around. Or just use a stamina potion.

Also never stay in channel 1 it's bad news. But GvG is neutered on PVE servers, which is kinda lame. But whatevs.

So, based on the many recommendations in this thread, I decided to try out Zerker this time, and...holy shit, you guys.

I've definitely found my main come launch. There is nothing like getting a crit on a charged ability and quite literally one-shotting things. Plus, I threw some MP and HP regen crystals on my gear; I was going to each mob with nearly 100% health and mana, no downtime at all if I blocked properly.

I just can't say it enough. Combat in this game is so damn fun.

Yeah I started downloading that patch this morning... might as well be prepared. :P

I've read that the open beta is basically going to be open to anyone who signs up for it, but that seems like a recipe for making their servers shit the bed. Since they aren't a big name or anything, having a good open beta showing would really help them draw more of a crowd to their excellent little game, so I hope they're prepared.

Berserkers really are the best. That axe is so damn huge, and I feel like the game does an excellent job in showing just how heavy it is. Plus my blocking skills seem much stronger than my dodging skills, for whatever reason.

I am a bit late on the zerker vs slayer debate, however since i had to dig through hell to get this info, might as well share!

Currently in korea zerkers are in a wierd Place dps wise. They cant get out of the way of bosses fuckall aoe, and their blocl dosent keep them from getting oneshot.

The problem with them atm is that fights require a shitton of movement. Zerkers require a full charge+a wee bit of overcharge to maximize their dps.however, if you have to move, that translates into zero dps.meanwhile, a slayer has already hit the boss a couple of times with some ridiculously hard hitting abilities before having to move.

You wont notice the problem until 50+, but just giving a pve heads up. And bluehole is already working on it.

  • Toxic PickleToxic Pickle Thash grape! Registered User regular
That is good stuff to know, Transporter. Makes me sad since I enjoy the way Berserkers play far more than I do Slayers, but I suppose I haven't really given Slayers a fair shake (never got past Island of Dawn).

Still, EME have been working on re-balancing Warriors, so I have some hope that if Berserkers really do have that much trouble with instance bosses, they'll try to work it out.

Slayers do stupid amounts of damage with their near instant damaging abilities, it's kind of unfair to Berserkers. However, you can glyph Cyclone to have full speed movement while charging, and all the rest get half-speed. From what I saw, at Lv60 Berserkers also get a skill that once charged, they can roll and release it at some point after that. Does a lot of damage, too.

edit: I played a Slayer to 43 in K-Tera and I was getting 45k crits from behind on bosses with ~.5s animation abilities. Berskers do similar hits with 3s charges. I still don't see how that's fair. There seems to be a pretty long delay after using a skill to start the Berserker block, whereas Lancers can animation-break with their block. Not sure what's up with that.

I was originally pretty pumped to play a Berserker come NA launch, but the more I look around, the more I see people complaining about how bad they are, especially at end-game. In PvE AND PvP.

Yowch that makes me feel better about my Slayer choice. Hopefully it's something they will address (and with what I've seen of EME so far I'm pretty hopeful)

My big decision now is trying to figure out if I want a Popori or Elin for my Lancer. Elin is a given for my Slayer just for the PvP hilarity, but I'm not a huge fan of the Plate armor for Elin that I've seen so far. I'll have to see if it gets better later on but I know the Popori stuff looks pretty neat even if their blocking animation isn't as cool as the Elin one.

    BAH decisions!
