The old thread is near it's end so I figured as a public service I'd create a bare bones new thread. Anyone interested in being added to the player list post in thread and I'll add you.

Game Naming Conventions

The Softcore crew tends to start up a Normal game/pass with the following: panr1/wang

The Hardcore crew tends to start up a Normal game/pass with the following: pahnr1/wang

Nightmare difficulty games tend to be: panm1/wang for Softcore or pahnm1/wang for Hardcore

Hell difficulty games tend to be: pahhl1/wang for Hardcore. Softcore can be pahl1/wang or pall1/wang.

Muling or whatever games are usually pamule/wang.

Since the start of ladder season six there have been issues with people failing to join games; the situation has improved but occasionally you will see this happening. If someone appears to have joined pahl2/wang but the game tells you pahl2 doesn't exist, the person is probably currently stuck at a loading screen. Etiquette permits you to go ahead and create pahl3/wang.

Further iterations of the number for new games (in case folks need the earlier completed quests). Or just add any of the account names above to your Diablo II friends list by typing /f add AccountName (no asterisk needed) and you'll be able to see who is online or available to private message. Feel free to start up the PA games on your own, and other people might find you.

Also, when you start up a new game, post the game to this thread, if you want to have more visibility and attract some PA lurkers.

Why should you follow these naming conventions? Well, you want to play with other PAers, don't you? It makes it much easier to find you and play with you when we all use the same names/passwords for games.

I started on ESCL but I can go hardcore. Let's see if we can get a few more peeps.

Not really at all! Most deaths are user error!

Undead Stygian Dolls, Conviction enhanced Black Souls, Nihlathak's CE, and lag are all dangerous. The most dangerous thing, however, the last time I played HC, were other players. I got ganked so hard but I was very trusting. With lag you have to be really careful and note the signs. Easy with a sorc because TP won't work when you are lagged.

My other problem is that my college Internet connection is seriously terrible -- rolling brownouts all the time. I could never play HC.

I also feel that D2 characters progress too slowly for HC -- I'm all about permadeath in my Roguelikes, but those go much faster.

Hardcore rules if you have a good gang to play with. Softcore is great too though. I've got my sorc to act 3 but I also want to start a zealot.

Edit: which means my sorc is gonna need a hand getting to Meph since I'll be fucked if I'm gonna waste Khalim's Will on the Compelling Orb. Gotta twink my pally with that shit

I have been playing on the east ladder.

So far the only good item I have been able to find is an Um Rune. If any of you come across an arm of king leoric, trang-oul items I would like to do some deals with you.

Does anyone here know if it is possible to shop for an ES staff?

It is not possible to shop for a +3 ES staff, as far as I know.

e: presuming that you mean a non-magical one, for Memory. If you just want a +ES magic staff as a buff (not a good idea, really), then you can shop for one.

e#2: yep, all items above ilvl 20 from a shop will be magical. But to spawn ES, it needs to be at least ilvl 24, below which the ES staffmod will not spawn. So you cannot shop a non-magical staff with ES.

Presuming you want a prebuffer, keep talking to Hell Malah, preferably in a game with someone else's TP up - this reduces the walk time. Look for +3 lightning skills with the +3 ES staffmod, presumably. But this will be horrible; you will lose mana and life too easily.

Alright well I have my necro at 76. The last few days have been extremely laggy and I am just glad I am not playing hardcore right now.

Seriously though, if you guys have a trang-ouls guise I will love you forever if you traded with me. Thats the last piece I need to complete the set (on east ladder softcore)

Energy Shield is really something you have to build your entire character around to make good use of. Though an energy shield sorc is an absolute beast. You can find a two-socket, white, +3 ES staff, but it is obscenely rare. I spent literally years looking for one. It's even more difficult to find since no one really cares about ES, so people don't think to save them when they find them.

I've never finished the expansion, although I finished the main campaign.

Which means I should get around to doing that...

memory is four sockets, not two, and most staves have a max of 4 sockets, meaning that not only are they somewhat more common, you can find a non-socketed one to Larzuk relatively easily. The difficulty is getting +3ES/+3 something else, like Chilling Armor, for easy buffing. But that would really be for convenience, not necessity.

leaf is the two socket runeword, but that one is strictly twinky anyway.

Oh, right. I was thinking of Leaf. Maybe I'm thinking of a +3 ES/+3 Telekinesis that was so hard to find. It's been a long time since I played, but I know I was looking for a staff for my ES sorc for ages and never found one.
