Lovecraft inspired

Am I the only one who thinks some of H.P. Lovecraft's stories would make for great DnD campaigns? A slightly modified version of "The Shadow Over Innsmouth," I think, would make for a great game of DnD.

I've got a Wii. Feel free to ask for my ID.

There was a whole section about this in Call of Cthulhu D20, with updated loot lists and monster stats and everything.

So I see. Forgive my ignorance. I spend more time admiring DnD then actually playing it, you see.

If you want more traditional Lovecraft-inspired games, don't forget Chaosium's very solid Call of Cthulhu P&P RPG (it has plenty of sourcebooks for more material), the Call of Cthulhu CCG, and the boardgame Arkham Horror with multiple expansions.

    Bolded for truth.

I just wanted to jump in and show my support for Arkham Horror. The game is a lot of fun, although I've noticed the difficulty and game speed really varies with the number of players. A game with 4 or 5 players can be a pulse-pounding race as the players succomb to wave after wave of horrid monsters belched forth from seemingly never-ending streams of otherworldly rifts. Whereas in the 6-8 player range it can be a much more paced game as the players and world plod their way towards salvation or oblivion.

Regardless, I'll always remember the game in which my poor Hobo spent the entirety of the time being pulled into horrible alien dimensions. He only stayed in normal reality long enough to sift through the trash looking for elder signs.

I haven't actually played the game, but I'm glad you like it. I've heard a lot of great reviews of it, but unfortunately I don't know many local people that would be interested in something like that. Is it a complete waste of time to try and play it singleplayer? From the reviews I've read, it seems like the game does scale quite a bit with the number of players, but would a one-player run be entirely futile?

Mechanically, there is nothing that requires more than one actual player. However, the game does require multiple characters working together to win. You'd do fine playing more than one character by yourself, but the game would be unwinnable with just one. You'd be overrun.

    Edited for clarification.

Don't forget that you can't laugh at your buddies as their face gets sucked off by gruesome abominations from beyond the dawn of time. :(

D20 Cthulhu (although we recently switched to using the WoD system because our DM fell in love with it) has been pretty much the most fun I've ever had roleplaying. I dunno how we've managed to keep the same characters alive for the last 5 years.
