Dungeon Hunter: Alliance (PSN) thread of 4 player Hack N Slash loot madness

I bought this last week when it hit the Australian Playstation Store. I was a little nervous about grabbing this since it's from Gameloft, but i love these Diablo hack-n-slash loot games so i thought what the heck.

The game is pretty dam good.

* You have 3 classes (Warrior, Rogue, Mage)
* Drop in, Drop out 4-player local co-op
* Online 4-player co-op
* Can Co-op with a mate locally whilst playing online with randoms
* Stats are divided between Strength , Endurance, Dexterity and Energy
* Skill Tree has 21 skills for each class (passives and actives)
* You get Elemental Fairy powers as you progress (Water Fairy creates Ice and Slows, Earth damages and stuns, Wind pushes back etc)
* Loot system (with White, Green, Teal, Purple and Gold item rarities)
* User interface and controls are perfect for the PS3
* 75 level cap for characters
* Can re-spec skills and stats in Town for a fee
* Game is 60FPS
* Has New Game Plus after you clock it (with harder difficulties)
* Leader-boards
* Difficulty changes with more people you have
* PlayStation Move support
* 19 trophies (17 bronze 2 silver)

There are afew things missing from what you would expect to find in the Diablo/Torchlight/Titan Quest games

- No stash/bank (but you can transfer items to character mules)
- No 'Unique' 'Magical' Monsters (besides Bosses)
- Although the game is slightly randomized, it is exactly that. So slight that its barely noticeable (this point pissed me off the most)
- Monsters become abit samey after awhile
- Main characters face looks retarded (only noticeable in main menu)

Despite those negatives I say the game is easily worth picking up. Someone from another forum said it took him 20 to 30 hours to clock.

I'd give the game a 8.9 out of 10. Much better than Deathspank.

Dungeon Hunter Alliance plays really well with Co-op and is a blast.

Prices:

$19.95 AUD
$12.99 USD
£9.99
€12.99

    I bought this tonight since I was in the mood for a good old hack and slash loot fest. I enjoyed Dungeon Hunter on Android and my iPod Touch, so I thought I'd give this a try. About a hour and a half in, it's pretty fun and not just a direct upscale and port of Dungeon Hunter.

    I'm Gridlynk on PSN, and if I'd definitely be up for a co-op game whenever I'm on.

    Rouge is a color, not a class.

    Also, diablo hack/slash lootwhore is right up my alley... if it weren't on the PSN.

    I actually have that through steam, and love it. I'm sure I would love this, if I could play it.

    Does it work on the PSP or just the PS3? n/m, I'll go check.

    e: Go to the PSN on my psp... update required.

    e2: Seems it's PS3 only. It looks gorgeous though.

    I really do love these games but this one just seems way too generic. There's not a single interesting hook anywhere in the thing.

    I like the way they copied the monster health bars and fat demon from the D3 reveal video.

    And the caster attack animations from DA2.

    I might be shameless enough to get this. Someone has to take care of that demon infestation problem, right?

    Well, then, you're doing it wrong. It's the best hack and slash RPG out for consoles.

    I scratched up a few reviews for Dungeon Hunter and it seems to be a very very competent Diablo clone. What they copy they copy right but there's nothing new here.

    Hmm. I may end up renting it from Gamefly then. On your word.

    Sacred 2 is near the top of my "buy when you see it cheap list" but it seems to be harder to find in stores near me.

    The 4-player local coop in DH might convince me to pick this up at some point, does it fare well compared to Torchlight? (even if it offers nothing new)

    From what I read, it's simpler then Torchlight. It's a very well made basic version of Diablo II. Rogue, Warrior, Mage, 21 skills each. No unique monsters, just level bosses. Different rarity weapons and you get better stuff if you play co-op.

    The controls are very simple and feel pretty good, there is no force feedback if that makes any difference to you. You can only have four attacks and/or skills to use at any one time, and are mapped to the circle, square, triangle, and x buttons. The triggers are for potion use, weapon set swap, fairy ability, and environment interaction/loot pickup. Movement feels good albeit a little on the loose side, and your character could move a bit faster. That said, perfectly fine for what the game is.

    Definitely will have to give Dungeon Hunter a spin, haven't had a decent console co-op hack'n'slash since BG: DA 2. Sacred 2 was just too easy to provide any entertainment.

    Very similar to Deathspank controls. They are very user friendly. Really liked the UI though, it just seems to fit well on the PS3.

    Purchase'd. I think the game is really good, and definitely worth the $12 so far.

    Except that my friend keeps getting all the fucking loot! Stupid damn "round robin" thing always lands on gold for me, and items for him. In which he picks up all the gold anyway since he's melee.

    Play a higher difficulty. The default difficulty (Bronze I think?) is for people who may be missing several limbs.

    Loving the mage's skills so far; recently unlocked Meteor, which can be targetted anywhere on screen - very useful for covering a retreat, or attacking across chasms/through gates. Even more useful when you have 38MP regen per second, and it can be cast multiple times, leaving the enemies trapped in a firey rain of death. Chain Lightning's good too, since it can bounce to targets in any direction. Don't think it's worth building up Rejuvenate beyond level 1, though; it's a straight 25MP for 25HP increase... but it ends up being more costly for less health.

    Rogue>Mage>Warrior

    If playing solo the Rogue is excellent are blazing through Dungeons.

    I'm co-oping as a Warrior with my Bro (Rogue)

    A friend and I have been co-oping it on Silver difficulty and it is still too easy, trying to complete the campaign for the first run but the swamp is murdering my ps3 and sucking all fun out of it. Maybe a NG+ with a higher difficulty level wouldn't have us 2-shotting bosses.

    In DH:A related news the bosses can be pretty brutal, which is a good thing.

    My copy of Sacred 2 arrived today and after playing for about four hours as a Dryad on silver, and I already like it more than DH:A as far as gameplay is concerned. The menus, general accessibility, and angle/FOV is better in DH:A but that's about it.

    I've put about 10 hours into DH:A split 40:60 between a warrior and a rogue (specced for ranged combat), and really struggled with the rogue on bosses. The rogue just doesn't deal well with medium and large groups of enemies (and a boss as the same time) yet since I don't have enough points to make good use of his AOE abilities. I'm still going to keep playing to see if more talent point makes the rogue better since I do prefer him to the warrior.

    That boss is easier with a rogue or mage, thanks to being skilled in bows and long range magic respectively, plus it helps if you have weapons that do fire damage over time. I like how they've tried to make bosses that are easier with one class and harder with another, but it does mean that a lot of the time, you end up either running like fuck from their 20+ minions while your MP/fairy recharges, or spamming your strongest skill plus the potion button until they die.

    Holy crap, my rogue has turned into some kind of stupidly powerful glass cannon. Level 23, and I'm doing 500+ damage with Dash when it crits... which is 1 in 6 times.

    Not to mention the 6 ticks of 36-ish fire damage afterwards, due to both weapons having it.

    And the 39% stun chance.

    The best thing is, I still have one rank of Thief Arsenal left, so that's another 10 points base damage to add... but then there's 5 ranks of Ambidextrous, which looks like another 50 points base damage. After that, there's Bloodlust, which gives HP and MP on killing enemies... which will give me the MP to keep spamming my overpowered Dashes.

    EDIT - And now I've found an even stronger dagger, so it's 6 ticks of 40 fire damage, and 40% stun now.
