    fuck this sucks

rendering 140+ frames by hand, one at a time

    down to 43 to go

    2-3 minutes each

just babysitting the fucking thing, can't work on anything else while it renders

    such horseshit

On the contrary, this is the exact sort of situation one can enjoy playing a DS game confident in the knowledge that no, you really couldn't be doing anything better with your time.

If you don't have a DS or left it elsewhere though, that's some poor planning on your part.

problem is I need to keep an eye on it, save the file and start the next frame every 2 minutes

I was playing a lot on my phone, but now I'm just watching documentaries and eating too much

Oh jeez, I missed the "by hand" part. Does your program crash/corrupt files when rendering out sequences or what?

I've got a pair of volumetric lights in the scene, and the shot starts with the camera pretty tight on the character. For some reason, when I start the batch render process before around frame 140, when the camera is wide enough to see the entire cone of the light, it just doesn't activate the light. No idea why, but it just doesn't.

However, the light works fine if I render it off one frame at a time in the preview render window. So either I slog through six hours or more of this process or I have a shot where these god lights just blink on about five seconds in for no apparent reason, which would sink the project.

So, here I sit. Down to 16 frames to go, but god damn this has been a long, boring day.

wow thats balls rank. Its really hard to explain to other people just how crazy tedious animation can be sometimes. You sink so many hours into a minute.

If its any consolation, I think its going to be great when its done.

I hope so. I made a bunch of changes to the beginning, and I think it works WAY better then the crappy animation I had in there. I'm about to make a post about it, and should have the final cut of the work done in a day or two.

Never ever had this problem with Faber-Castell's or even the cheap General Semi-Hex. I really, really, really, wish my local art store would keep the damn Prismacolor Turquoise in stock. Fuck.

So, in the past I have posted some of the music that I find enjoyable, and I think most of you can agree it isn't very aproachable...

But when fans of my favorite bands make an 8 bit adaptation, I just have to share it with you all. Here are some of the better ones. Both of the first 2 have 2 parts.

this probably goes without saying, but make sure your sharpener is sharp

if it's dull it can put torque on the graphite and break it

I've only had problems with the softer grade Derwent's. Even when my shapener was brand new. They always break about a 1/4 in the pencil. Like the wood and graphite aren't properly bonded. Anyone know where I can order the softer grade of Faber-Castell 9000's? Blick only sells a up to a 6b.

In other news, I can't get Minecraft to not auto-update. Auto-updates are a weird thing. I keep turning them on for things and then the very next update is always the program-destroying manglefuck of an update.

droid camera- "WHOOPS YOU CAN'T VIEW YOUR SHOTS AFTER YOU TAKE THEM ANYMORE WITHOUT OFFLOADING THEM TO YOUR PC, OUR B MAN"

Astrid to-do list "WHOOPS ALL OF YOUR TASKS GOT LOST SOMEHOW, HOPE YOU WROTE THAT SHIT DOWN. ALSO YOUR PHONE CRASHES IF YOU TRY TO LAUNCH ME! GLHF."

google maps for android- "WHOOPS THE ONLY DIRECTIONS THAT WILL WORK ARE WALKING DIRECTIONS, SAVE SOME GAS DUDER"

Minecraft- actually every single minecraft update destroys the game. Notch isn't terribly good at that part.

in retrospect maybe android is just a platform that doesn't handle updates well due to manufacturers and service providers insisting on putting their stupid overlay skins on shit. I guarantee there would be no problems if everyone just let Android well enough alone.

Yeah... but it is strange that he started charging people to play his alpha/beta game. Usually they just give out some free codes or whatever (yes i know he probably needs the money, but when ppl pay for a product they usually expect it to work)

In the case of minecraft, you're paying for the full game at a discounted price, and given early access to the beta build. Most people kind of treat it like a complete game, but the language on the site has always been "you can play it now, but it's a beta, so don't get too attached to anything because it WILL change, frequently and radically."

were there time to do so, I would have, but I needed it for story reasons

as it stood, I had 660 frames rendered with the light in and working, 140 that refused to render it

I think it had something to do with the node for the cone of fog being re-instanced on both lights, but I couldn't seem to fix it without breaking the entire scene

Yep. It is a beta and should also be treated as a beta, maybe even like an alpha. It's like whenever 'Unknown Worlds' deliver a new ns2 alpha. Each one is more playable than the other but it isn't complete. You've bought it as a preorder that gives you access to the beta basically.

Aye, that's all true. Its just that I have certain expectations for the overnight millionare who literally funded a development studio using money he made from that alpha. The least he could do is try to use his shiny new dev team to make his updates not game-breaking for the two million plus people who bought it. Then again I am not notch and cannot pretend to know what he's dealing with. If I was I would be posting from a diamond-coated laptop instead of a plastic-coated one.

I think I might start off making a few tried and true projects, entry levels projects. Maybe mod myself a nerf gun, sew a companion cube, then move on to something more advanced. Gonna try and a heap of things during the next break if I have time, although I never seem to learn everything I want.
