So, I'm going to San Diego soon with my family. We're going to be there for a week and a half, so I was just wondering if you guys knew of anything cool there to do.
I'm 16, I'm into art, grafitti, music (I play bass, and am into some other wierd instruments like the ocarina, might look around some music stores?). I'm also vegan, but I'm sure theres a million mexican resturants there. Thats another thing I'm into. Good food.
So yeah, any suggestions or ideas at all would be really appreciated. I'll try and find out exactly where I'll be staying later. I've obviously never been there before, so if theres anything I should definatly check out let me know.
The Zoo is nice (most animals are out the entire year, so I wouldn't worry about missing anything), but if you have the time, go to the Wild Animal Park out in Escondido instead. It's run by the same people, but it's out in the middle of nowhere so they can cram in that much more awesome. On the way, stop off at Queen Califia's Magical Circle Garden (queencalifia.org); it's an AMAZING sculture garden by Nikki de Saint Phalle that nobody ever goes to.
Balboa Park's really cool. That's where the zoo is, but there's all sorts of other stuff as well. There's a bunch of museums (besides your standard natural history museum, space museum, etc., there's a neat international art museum called the Mingei), an international village that's really cute and kitsch, and just generally good places to walk around. If you're there on a Sunday afternoon, they have free organ concerts at the Organ Pavillion (the world's largest outdoor organ!).
I'm sure they exist, but I can't think of any other "must-go" places off the top of my head. Hillcrest is worth spending some time in if you want the funky section of town. La Jolla is an upscale tourist beach town (one beach there has a colony of seals). The Gaslamp district is a pitiful downtown, but may be worth a visit.
For good mexican food, try Sombreros and Rubios in Carmel Mountain, also visit Chee Burger Chee Burger right next to Rubios, it's a 70s restaurant that just opened up, there's a couple of cool things there you may wanna try out.
Make sure to check out La Jolla, Mount Soledad is cool.
The Zoo is okay, I've been twice, the Safari part(SUVs only?) is the coolest.
Also DO visit Coronado, rent one of those huge bikes and take a spin around the bridge.

They also have a IMAX theater, and a classic cars museum. (I've never seen so many old Italian super cars in my life.)

You should check out Che Cafe. It's a venue (and they have a vegan kitchen) located on the UCSD campus in La Jolla. They mostly book DIY hardcore, punk, and indie bands.
i've been to san diego about 6 or 7 times now, and it's always pretty great. go up in the mountains and check out the mining stuff, head down to tijuana for a day (do NOT go at night), check out the crazy ass naval stuff, go to the beach, look at some of the artsier parks downtown, see the zoo, go on a fishing boat, watch a polo match, etc. there's all kinds of neat stuff to check out.

You should also check out Historic Tours, they have a good trolley tour that takes you to a bunch of places in town, including the USS Midway.
But if you decide to go to Tijuana, DON'T BUY ANYTHING, it's all fake. All of it.
Oh and Joe's Crab Shack FTW.

And the Gas Lamp District is worth going to
See how many books I've read so far in 2010

I'd highly recommend just finding a coffee shop somewhere and reading the newspaper, but hey, thats what I like to do. The zoo is quite nice though.
