or really, what i mean to say is, running outdated but apparently current software on a new computer

my computer has windows 7 64 bit

the 2011 gre prep book i bought a few months ago in sept (yes i just opened the cd now i am lazy) apparently doesn't work with 64 bit computers, and will only run on windows 7 32-bit in compatability mode

same with ets' official software you can download: http://www.ets.org/gre/general/prepare/powerprep?WT.ac=GRE_PowerPrep_faq2_compatibility#compatibility

as you can imagine, this is annoying as hell because it is 2011 and that is just dumb

do i have any options

umm i have a windows xp home edition disk lying around somewhere (though it's been used before) if that's any help

Virutal PC running that windows XP disk should do it.

I feel your pain, a lot of my clients use a bit of UPS software to print their shipping labels. They didn't come out with a Vista compatible version until after Windows 7 came out, and last I knew it didn't run on Windows 7. Most of my clients have an XP computer, but at least one has either Virtual PC or Virtualbox running XP just for the program.
