Screen recording software for let's play style videos

So, this may sound like kind of a dumb question given the number of choices to choose from, but screen recording software seems like the type of simple application that would have spyware and such bundled with it.

So I’m looking for some screen recording software (for windows), to be used for let’s play/program tutorial purposes. The only real options I need are one that doesn't lag or jitter recording, and outputting uncompressed files (for editing). Having one that can keep up during high-frame rate situations would be nice, as would not lagging down whatever game I’m playing.

Anyone have any experience or recommendations?

    FRAPS is the gold standard.

I have used FRAPs, but it is not the total solution you are looking for, to make it work smooth it is recommended to use a second (huge) hard disk where you can dump the video being recorded, this will put a lot of stress on the machine anyway.

An alternative to this, it is to use a second computer or a DVD recorder for capturing the video output of your S-Video card.
