No, not the Sean Connery movie from 1981 where "In the distant future, a police marshal stationed at a remote mining colony on the Jupiter moon of Io uncovers a drug-smuggling conspiracy, and gets no help from the populace when he later finds himself marked for murder." though this thread could be about that.
I'm specifically talking about the latest release on XBLA and PSN(hahahaha) called Outland.
It is a kickass platforming action/adventure game with some Ikaruga mixed in for good fun.
The visuals are absolutely stunning and I'm going to find myself a wallpaper.
It's only 800 points so everyone should check it out.
I downloaded the demo and within a minute I felt compelled to buy it.

It's not a SHMUP. It's a platforming action game.
Ok, so the youtube video does make me less concerned than your second screenshot, as far as having to constantly dodge lots of different colored energy balls in complex patterns.

Looking at those screenshots and they just don't do this game justice. The colors are sharp and bright and everything pops on the screen. In motion it is so damn smooth.
Maybe I can take a pic of it on my TV and post it here. Might try that later.

So far it's pretty easy but I'm still pretty early on.
The game has some kind of co-op too but I don't know how it works.
It's just so god damned gorgeous in motion.

This made me want to buy a second copy for one of my buddies, just so I can try out those challenge rooms.
And you can find it on the internet fairly easily.
I thought I was the only one who felt this way
I mean the special effects aren't great and some of the dialogue is a little forced, but man, what an atmosphere

It does really have a sense of place.
It is also deeply in love with people's heads exploding from vacuum. The film is a love letter to poor space safety standards.

I'm loving it. It's like a melee Metroid mixed with a bit of Ikaruga and Tron inspired graphics
I just wish it had an overall map like Metroid (it has one for each area you're in, but not the whole world)
