I just got an email from Sony saying that a shit ton of my information was kinda, sorta, pretty much totally stolen.
I know about the whole issue and all, so that's not a problem. I was just wondering if this was a blanket email sent to everyone, or if it means me, specifically, probably had my information stolen?
I'd imagine it's probably a blanket email sent to everyone on the PSN.
You may want to post this in one of the discussion threads we have on the subject to see if the email you got matches up with what others have received.
I didn't get to finish that discussion topic, but it was the exact same email. So, Hooray I guess. I'm not alone.
But is it actually confirmed now that everything really was stolen? Wouldn't Sony get in massive trouble for waiting so long to tell this? It's been about a week.
They say that it took them 9 days to determine that the information was stolen. Feel free to consider them incompetent or criminally negligent, it's doubtful anything will come of it either way.
Anyways, they've confirmed that everything except credit cards were stolen, and in plaintext. Credit cards may or may not have been stolen, but was encrypted. However, there are lots of reports of people in the G&T thread getting fraudulent charges placed on their accounts. The safe bet is to assume that nothing is safe at this point.

I already put a alert on my credit, hoping that won't mess up the background check for my new job.
I may cancel my card, since they really can't/won't say.

The only thing still up in the air is whether they got all the credit card info or not.

edit: Oh. Waves.
I really hope that this turns out alright for Sony and everyone else. Except the guys who stole it. They can die in a fire.
Thank you for the quick responses everyone. I think this can safely be locked now (like all my credit cards )
Apparently they're using a PS3 to type in the addresses, so it's taking awhile to reach everyone.
I like how they say they have no evidence of the credit card information being stolen, but you should pretty much assume it was.
What a freakin' hassle.
