so I guess they're applying the boatload of innovations from 2 and AssBro to the original game?
.... I'm actually not that unhappy. The original Assassin's Creed should've been a better game.
if they re-released the first game updated in AssBro's engine for $20 or so i'd be into it, but my bet is another portable spin off. i can't see them doing two spin offs for console before finishing AC3.
We'll be honest -- the latest teaser posted on Facebook for the forthcoming Assassin's Creed game reveal was outright baffling to us. Despite containing major clues like the very clear image you see above (an Ottoman Tughra) and a string of numbers flashed twice ("24061459"), not to mention the friggin' Hagia Sofia (it's kinda famous), we somehow didn't put together that the teaser was very seriously hinting at an Istanbul setting for the next game. Thankfully, Turkish gaming site Oyungezer has plenty of insight to offer.
The string of numbers? That's a stand-in for "June 24, 1459," or for you Auditore family historians, Ezio's date of birth. And the Ottoman Tughra? Turns out that's an official seal or signature for a sultan, used to sign official documents and for money printing, among other things. It's like Prince's symbol, basically, except it originates with the Ottoman Empire rather than an egomaniacal musician.
Anyway, between the major landmark (Hagia Sofia) and the Tughra, we're guessing the big reveal will somehow center on Istanbul, potentially in the mid-1400s. As for when we'll find out, your guess is as good as ours -- the meter towards the next teaser is at 20 percent as of now, with no indication of how many unveilings are left in Ubisoft's plan.
I'm a bit less enthused about yet another spinoff, rather than Assassin's Creed 3, but Constantinople? So fucking there.

I'd be more angry about the milking if AC2 wasn't worlds better than the first, and AC:B had just enough improvements to make it a better game above that. They can get one more out of me before I need a big shift in the next title.

Although I'm hoping that the next game has less items and weapons. I just found the variety of things I could use (smokebombs, coins, throwing knives, crossbow, gun, poison, ranged poison, parachutes, and then the normal weapons and abilities) would make things far too easy, or seem redundant. Honestly, do I really need four different ways to kill a guy at range? But hey, I can just not use those things. Makes things more frustrating at times, but still fun.
I love how everyone is pining for AC3 to be set during the French Revolution, but despite the fact that it was my initial inclination, I'm starting to think its not that great of an idea.
For one thing, firearms are way too common during that period, which I think would kind of undermine stabby gameplay. Additionally, one would assume that the hub cities would be cathedral cities... Amiens, Rouen, Paris... but that if Paris were the biggest/best city, it would hardly have any famous landmarks to climb, as the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe weren't finished til the 19th century. That leaves Notre Dame, and maybe some other things I'm forgetting.
Honestly? I'm starting to think Elizabethan England should be where AC3 takes place. Lots of neat cities to run through and lots of awesome things to climb, all in an interesting historical/political environment.

You only get to shoot once before it's stabby time, because reloading takes a while, right? So you get a
new gameplay element where you either have to dodge everyone's first shot or surprise them at close range so they can't get a shot off.
I see no problem with more ranged combat. They've been moving forward with that in each game. Stabbings will still happen. Or assassin bullet time where Desmond slices individual bullets with hidden blades.

Nooo, no bullet slicing, please.
As for the issue of time periods/places without high buildings to climb: I wouldn't mind seeing more ground level sneaking and crowd usage in the future game(s). Maybe have buildings be more than four walls and a roof. Though that might be more work than it would be worth.

Getting to revisit Altair with the game improvements from AC2/ACB is actually a thrilling prospect. Hopefully it will still have that feel of the crusades, even though its taking place further east.

I definitely wouldn't mind revisiting Altair's world with all the gameplay improvements from the last two games.

Up until a few minutes ago, I thought the TMBG version was the original version. Mind blown, although I shouldn't be too shocked that it isn't. It always sounded like a song from an earlier time.

They could include cities outside of Paris, like London, Vienna and parts of Spain and Portugal, where Napolean campaigned. They even could include Italy again, since he conquered large chunks of it.
As for guns, considering everyone was still using flintlock/one shot pistols and rifles, the shooting during the Napoleonic period wouldn't be that different from Brotherhood, though the lack of armor would be an issue. Granted, Ezio does prance around in armor, but it made sense for the period since the guards and mercenaries wear it too. But how can you protect against bullets in the late 18th/early 19th century without looking too obvious in crowds since no one else is wearing armour?
...then again, Ezio wasn't exactly the king of subtlety in all those flashing robes, and with a ton of weapons and a crossbow strapped to his back.
You'll learn how each of the franchise's major characters -- Altaïr, Ezio, and Desmond -- play a part in the story, and how you'll control each of the three as playable characters. Uncover a brand new part of the world as Ezio travels abroad for the first time to explore the wonders of Constantinople at the height of the Ottoman Empire.
Although I do hope that Ezio is at least less mobile. He's been through some shit and is a bit older now after AC2/ACB. Hopefully they play to that in the gameplay while keeping it interesting.
I'm really surprised at myself for being excited about this. I keep seeing comments here and on twitter and other places saying that people are tired of Ezio, they want someone new, new time period, etc and so forth. And I agree with all of that mentally.
But for some reason I can't be bummed that we're getting a new game this year that will build on the good stuff from 2 and AssBro. Here's hoping the Altair stuff is all brought up to par with 2 and we get even more cool improvements.

So is this technically AC3 or a AC2: Part 3? Hope it's the latter, as I want a whole new ancestor, potentially a female one, and a new time period.
Also hope they get a new voice actor for Altair, or force the original guy to shape up. Especially after the amazing job Roger Craig Smith did as Ezio. Considering Altair comes across as WAY more interesting in the codex versus AC1, here's to hoping they beef up his character too.

I would probably wait for the quality to start going down, even a little bit, before you ascribed Call of Duty/GH/THPS/whatever syndrome to this
If anything, I expect the games to keep getting better and the stories (in "side" titles, anyways) to be the thing that suffers.
AC2 had an intriguing story, and the ending was "OH FUCK"
Brotherhood was...intriguing enough (and I really liked some of the characters), but the ending was "Okay? Sure, I guess."
First: Your avatar is excellent.
Second: Industrial London would be cool too.
Third: Really, that avatar is great stuff.
Cuatro: Assassins in SPPPPAAAAACCCEEE!
And I'm still hoping for 19th century New Orleans.
Like, is this one going to take place on an island, maybe?

I cannot imagine playing as Ezio in Istanbul
I find it hilarios that KH has become the standard for this gaming trope.
I mean my god, they are really scraping the barrel for ideas down there at Square Enix. I hope Ubisoft doesn't turn out that way.
