I fully expect they will end the Desmond storyline eventually, but not end the series. Then drop the animus stuff, and just do the past storylines, Taking place in various cities and timelines.
Someone talk me out of getting AC1 for $7. I played most of it, never finished it, and the my roomate traded it in.
But I love the franchise so much I want to just have it to see the ending myself and see all the AC games in a row on my shelf. I just know going back to those controls and missions will be hell though.
Depends on how far in you've gone. I can't back to AC after AC2. ACB would be even worse.
I'm all for the new game, as long as it brings as much new things to the table as Brotherhood. I felt Brotherhood advanced the gameplay FAR more than Assassin's Creed to Assassin's Creed 2 did.
I don't see why they have such a hard on for Enzio though.
In terms of the inevitable Assassin's Creed 3 goes, the devs want to make sure gamers know that the next series in the game won't necessarily take place AFTER assassin's creed to. In other words, the next game could go back to Roman or Ancient Egyptian times as easily as the French Revolution.
Last time I checked, the devs seemed to be leaning HEAVILY in the favor of the next game taking place in Japan around the whole Ninja vs Samurai time.
It was all in an IGN.com interview.

I would like them to drop the advanced aliens/More evolved humans/Thingmajig's created humanity. A secret war with two factions that have pulled the strings through history is enough that it really doesn't need "Space aliens created humans and people use magic technology balls to control other humans."
Dated July 9, before Brotherhood came out, right after the announcement at E3, then they came out and said a few months after Brotherhood ended up being a hit that they'll keep going.

I'm cautiously looking forward to AC: Revelations.
With that said, here's some info that is apparently taken from the latest Game Informer.
- In order to make the world more immersive they've done away with traditional side missions in favor of random events. For example you may be traveling through a city and notice a shop owner being robbed or a little girl asking for help

I really like the Assassin's Creed brand. A lot. But I really hate Ubisoft for all these spinoffs. They realized that they could milk the franchise, and I don't want them to milk it. I want them to put out one solid game every three years with a shitload of polish and innovation in between each game.
I do not want to see Assassin's Creed become the next Call of Duty, where multiple teams are on multiple projects so that there can always be a new AC every year.
And really all I want is just AC3.
AGREED.
Quoting Ubisoft’s Jean-Francois Boivin:
“Honestly, I think for the benefit of everybody…I believe that this license needs a breather. You can't plough a field every year. Once every three years – or once every something – you have to let it breathe. You have to let the minerals back in. You want to keep people excited. You gotta make people miss it a bit.”
I had lots of opinions about this before ACB came out: Here and here.
We've been through this before. He just stated his opinion. He doesn't make any decisions.
The people who do make the decisions have every interest in shipping one of these a year, because the franchise provides massive profits for the company.
That's what will keep happening (think Call of Duty) until they run it into the ground and need to do a "reboot". Then, you might see a year off until the "reboot" happens.
Shitloads of music related titles in an attempt to run it into the ground? Check (Just Dance/Michael Jackson etc.)
Annual sequels to major franchise? Check.
Talent leaving to rival company? Check (Ubisoft loses people to THQ, Activision lost IW to EA)
Sue said rival company? Check.
Killing off creative properties that don't sell a billion copies? Maybe (See unknown status on BG&E2 and PoP(2008) sequel).

I would think and hope that after revelations there will be a breather
supposedly will answer questions and the completion of Ezio trilogy (which I'm ok with Ezio being a trilogy since I love these games) would be a good time to end it (would not have wanted to wait 3 years after Brotherhood's ending just to see that answered)
And I mean, they do expand on each subsequent game well enough, as compared to games like CoD or Madden that it becomes the same game almost every time, so it doesn't feel as though they're running it into the ground as much.
But a breather from Ezio would be very welcome after this one.
Altair was essentially a blank slate video game character #23. I only really became interested in the series with Ezio, his family and his life is way more interesting than all the other silly stuff. But I did enjoy some of the silly stuff in Brotherhood as it was at least well done.
I just got started on Brotherhood and I'm surprised at a) how easily I slipped back into the game and its universe and b) how much I've come to enjoy the Assassin's Creed story and storytelling. I actually like the combination of historical fiction and batshit crazy Erich von Däniken sci-fi. I get a similar kick out of it as I did out of Lost circa season 6. It's silly, but they pull it off with panache and aplomb and other words I rarely get to use.

I would disagree with this wholeheartedly, one-hundred percent.
In fact, I would argue that he is much more impressive as a character in the lore, and during the first game, than Ezio is during the second and Brotherhood.

Well, I'd be interested in hearing that argument, because I also thought that Altair wasn't much more than a cypher. What characterisation was there felt tacked on and much less an integral part of the character or the storytelling than is the case with Ezio.

I write about video games and stuff. It is fun. Sometimes.
My guess is we aren't getting out of the Animus for a long time in this game.

This is a good development.
Are we sure that's not Altair?
Not flamboyant enough to be Ezio, methinks.
oh god, the horrible memories :x

Uh, what? You realise we'll be playing as both Ezio and Altair in Revelations (alongside Desmond), right?

There have been at least two versions with the dlc packed in.
Assassin's Creed II: Complete Edition on 360 and PS3 (this one comes with the DLC as a download code).
Assassin's Creed II: Game of The Year - Platinum Edition PS3 (This one has the DLC on the disc).
They may be UK releases only, but that isn't a issue if you have a PS3.
