Official WRC is sometimes boring to watch because they very rarely give out onboard video, which is by far the most exciting view to watch in my opinion.
CMR2 was Codemaster's last attempt at making a realistic Rallying game, I really liked the format they had there, and the physics are still really good even by today's standards. I always end up wanting to re-install RBR but I always loathe having to try to configure my G25 to work with it nicely.
Here's an amusing clip I took earlier. I was cooking it around the final corner, when suddenly "Oh Shit!" There's an upside down car just sitting in the middle of the timing gate.
hulu.com has the entire 2008 and 2009 seasons of the WRC streaming for free, I've been watching it there over the last few weeks. Ken Block in terms of rally is a lot like Gigi Galli; not the most successful driver in terms of finishes, but people love him. Loeb is a hell of a driver, but watching his interviews on the WRC seasons; he's...kind of cocky, but maybe its just him being French.
Finally! A game that understands my desire for the inclusion of a jar of semen!

lol that's awesome dangerous
i love how in the game you are actually competing against the AI racers so if they fuck up and DNF their car's battered remains will totally still be where they wiped out as you are driving though. can make for fun unexpected obstacles
The Forza series is incredible. I've only played a little bit of Forza 3 and really want to get my own Xbox 360 so I can play through the entire game. I especially need a 360 when Forza 4 comes out. Gran Turismo use to be the definitive racing sim series you went to for driving all sorts of cars, but now it's Forza.
Also; Driving assists turned off, HUD turned off, interior camera view, with complex pace notes = OHSHITOHSHITOHSHIT. SO much fun, a nice challenge, too.
I've completely given up on this game in terms of realism; doing one of the smaller (longer) rally stages and Ken Block is in second place overall instead of upside down in some trees.
The biggest difference is that the track design is a lot better. I think Dirt 2 might have better rally stages though, just not as many of them. Rallycross in Dirt 3 is actually fun though, I couldn't stand it in Dirt 2.
You know, I've never played a racing game where going full cockpit no hud has felt this rewarding and fun. This game has a really great sense of speed.

This game is awesome, but yet I ask myself; "How many times do I care to re-launch the game after it crashes while loading a race?" :x
I really used to dread the Trailblazer events, now I quite look forward to them. Hood cam with no HUD makes an already difficult race far more engrossing.
Dirt 2 online contact races were full of arseholes.
I've found that in the "Hardcore" playlist of Dirt 3, this is improved somewhat.
It's full of arseholes that can drive slightly better.

O hai, Steam just downloaded a DiRT 3 update. Let's hope it's one of those "stop the crashes-to-desktop" update, and not the all-too-common "doesn't really do anything at all" update.
Question. Does anyone else find stadium truck racing to be the most difficult type of racing in the game? I mean in the sense that the AI drivers are much harder to catch.
So you can now redeem your VIP code on PS3, it'll give you errors, just keep trying and it should go through eventually.
edit: It was giving me an error code associated with "gamesharing" even though I'm the only person to ever log into my PSN account. But I kept trying the download and it eventually worked. While the PSN store is back, it's still a broken pile of shit right now.
Only the first time I've been compelled to upload video. Sheer dumb luck moving from 3rd to 1st in a buggy race (I want to race these fucking things in a rally event...)
Paul Coleman (the senior designer) wanted to do really big crowds of spectators that would stand in front of the track and then run off as you approached. Kinda like what happened during the Group B era. The resources just weren't there though to make that happen. It's something he really wants in Codemasters next rally sim though.
You don't even understand how excited I got when I saw Ken Block starting right ahead of me in this Rally Stage...I don't think I've ever driven a car so hard before. Also, it was TOTALLY worth it.
Totally getting that pack for the Lancia Delta. The only thing I wish we got were longer rally courses, otherwise I still really like this game. I'm just finding myself going back and forth between Dirt 1 and 3 though. If only we could have Dirt 1 with Dirt 3 graphics. Hopefully when the next gen consoles roll around.

No kidding. If only Dirt 3 had the cars and tracks from 1. Or 1 had the graphics and handling of 3.
*sigh*
I'm still happy with Dirt 3 though, its rally stages just don't hold a candle to Dirt 1s is the problem. Will have to see how the Monaco pack does but i'm expecting it'll be more of the same.
I remember enjoying the races across the desert in the big weird looking trucks in the first Dirt. Are those types of races still around in these newfangled bloom-abusing sequels or is it all stupid ass XXXTREME XGAMEZ RACIN' YO?
I am not super keen on the traditional point-to-point rally stuff or the rallycross shit, but I like the buggy and truck stuff. I have read that Dirt 3 is really heavy on p2p rally, so would I actually be better served giving Dirt 2 a spin?
You might want to give Dirt 2 a try, but it's chock full of extreeeme awesome racing dudebro. But it has a alot more of the trucks and buggies than 3 does. Not really a ton of truck types or races in 3.

Otherwise it's back to Dirt 1.
Your sig makes me sad. Race Pro was a pretty solid game, but it coulda been the best racing game EVAR with a little more time in the oven.

No disrespect to Forza cause I'm having a pretty good time with it, I was just totally sold after watching some Dirt 3 vids.

edit: whoops, apparently i was the last to post. ;x
You have no idea how much I want this to be true too.
But who's the actual guy saying all that dumb stuff in-game? They said his name but I ignored it.
Holy shit, I almost died laughing. Well played, sir.

And that's why I haven't played it since last week. It's a really great game, but the constant crashes are pretty frustrating.

And now, videos!

Most of them are pretty boring; just recording footage of each car I drive.

Myself, I'm losing interest in this game quick. Sad.
Thinking of picking up Dirt 1 again.
