X Box live not working

Since a few days after I downloaded Hulu Plus, my Xbox will usually boot up, log me into XBOX Live, show MOST of the internet content box thingies, but is unable to do a goddamn thing with any of them. Examples:

I try netflix. It'll load up and say that I need to upgrade to Gold. I try the game add ons section, it says content temporarily unavailable status code 80072eewhogivesashit, or status coode 8000FORFUCKSSAKEJUSTWORK10sjia11.

So I run the test network connection. It alternates between not being able to connect to the router, the internet, or Xbox live. Sometimes it goes through totes fine, but it doesn't matter because the moment I try to do anything other than observe the box that says that Treyarch will be playing people in CODBLOPS (Cool story, bro), I get a disconnect all over again.

Shit I've already half heartedly attempted:
powering down + powering up the router/cable modem (duh.)
Opening the recommended ports, 53, 88, 3074, and I can't remember; not at home.

Clearing the system cache.
Doing the Left bumper + Right Bumper + X *2 thing.
Reverting the Xbox to Factory default. Awesome, now Xbox always asks to update every game and itself every time it powers on. Most times it just shows a sliver of green download process before shitting itself.
Deleting netflix+Hulu plus

What the hell am I doing wrong? Please help meh.

Can you remove the router from the equation, plug straight in to the modem?

That is unfeasible even for testing purposes.

Also, every other device in the apartment is working fine on the router. We have 2 iphones, a PC and a laptop with no issues.

The request to isolate the X-Box from other devices is reasonable. The X-Box is not an iPhone, or a PC. It may have its own issues with your router that an update or other change causes the conflict.

My expectation is that the issue you are seeing most likely is not related to your router. But when debugging problems like this it is useful to be able to concretely discount those issues. It could be that there is a cabling issue to the router, that you have some noise from somewhere. It may be totally unrelated to the network. But you have to go through the steps to help debug the issue.

So directly wire the X-Box to your internet provider. If the problem persists you know more now than you did before.

    Love George Bernard Shaw quotations.

Also, I can count to "boat".

are there any other live users in the house? does it behave the same if they log in or is it just your account? do you have a hard drive? Have you tried removing the hard drive? is there a usb device plugged in?

did someone try modding your 360?

those error codes may not be as meaningless as you think...

    Yeah, this.

I've had some fucking weird stuff happen with my 360 and router. 360s are infamous for having IP conflicts, too, which can happen over an otherwise-functioning router.

Also, you say you've opened up ports; have you set your 360 up on a static IP? If so, have you told it what DNS servers to use? The 360 interface says that that's optional, but when you're using a static IP, it really isn't.

If you don't know your DNS servers, you can just use Google Public DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).
