Known Issues / Fixes
The 360 version has sketchy public online play atm. Splash damage has promised a fix, but no time table has been given.
- Playing in private matches (with PA people of course ;-)) is supposedly a much better experience. Hit up the PABrink metatag on the 360 to find some games
A small number of players have had issues with getting the game to run at all on PC. Game usually crashes out at splash screen.
- No known cause, and no fix yet. Happens on Windows XP/Vista/7, Intel and AMD cpus, nVidia and ATI graphics cards.
Poor performance on computers with ATI graphics cards
- There is a driver hotfix (11.5a) available, but it doesn't seem to help the issue much.
Working on a custom config file to mitigate this, more details to follow.
Grid lines on some textures
- Fixed in the 5/13 Brink PC patch.
All textures are solid blue
- Possibly Fixed? Also try disabling motion blur (Courtesy of Raiden333)
YMMV
More fixes to come....

Brink is a Class-Based Shooter that features a parkour-like movement system called SMART, tons of Customization options, lots of guns, leveling, perks, a unique art style, and possibly a kitchen sink. Playable by up to 16 players on 8 different maps, BRINK comes out on May 10th (May 13th in Europe) for the PC, 360 and PS3. Brink is being developed by Splash Damage, whose previous work includes Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.
THE FACTIONS
SECURITY: PROTECT THE ARK
Back when the Ark was a floating five star eco-resort and R&D eco-science park, it only needed a small corporate Security team to perform risk management and VIP protection duties. But as the seas rose, and the trickle of refugees to the Ark became a flood, the Ark needed a police force and then an armed gendarmerie.
Ark Security has now expanded into a heavily armed counter-terrorism force. Most Security personnel have volunteered because they're convinced that for the Ark to survive it must have peaceful order and conserve its remaining resources. And the extra water ration comes in useful too. Resistance provocations have forced Security to clamp down on Guest unrest, which has lead to the Ark teetering on the brink of outright revolt.
RESISTANCE: FIGHT FOR THE ARK
When the seas rose and coastal nations fell into panic, boatloads of refugees fought to find the Ark's secret location mid-ocean - only the lucky ones survived the trek. Initially, they were happy to have survived and gratefully accepted the cramped temporary housing, water rationing and dangerous maintenance jobs. But as the years passed, and conditions worsened, the Ark's new "Guests" came to question the status quo.
Are the Ark's Founders really doing all they can to re-establish contact with the outside world? Why are only the Guests on rationed water? If their work keeps the Ark afloat, why are they second class citizens? The Resistance formed from those sick and tired of being the Founders' captive workforce; they want equal water rations for all, and to use the Ark's dwindling resources to reach whatever's left of the World. Growing Guest unrest has led to Security crackdowns, which have brought the Ark to the brink of civil war.
SMART
The SMART system, or Smooth Movement Across Random Terrain, is arguably Brink's biggest and most unique feature. This video details the basics of SMART.
SMART Movement Video
Classes
The Basics:
Soldier: Distributes ammo, plant charges, throw molotovs
Engineer: Deploy turrets, repair gun emplacements, plant and defuse mines, buff friendly weapon damage
Medic: Heal, revive and buff teammates
Operative: Disguise, hack turrets / doors, spot mines

Body Types
Body type can be changed between matches in the Customization menu, but cannot be changed while in-game. Medium is the starting type, Heavy is unlocked at Level 5 and Light at Level 8 (supposedly).
Medium: The starting body type. Can perform basic parkour and some advanced parkour like wall climbing. Medium amount of health. Can use Assault Rifles and SMGs.
Heavy: Big, fat, and hard to kill, heavies are the tanks on the battlefields of the Ark. Extra health, but at the cost of only being able to perform the most basic parkour moves and slower movement speed. Able to wield heavy weapons like miniguns, autoshotties and grenade launchers, as well as assault rifles.
Light: Running here there and everywhere, the Light class are the darlings of the SMART system. Able to climb anywhere, jump off walls and get to places other classes couldn't dream of, the light trades lower health for increased mobility. SMGs and Pistols are the Light's tools of the trade, along with a handy knife for close up melee kills.
Game Modes
Brink can be played in Single Player, Co-op or Multiplayer. The story and gameplay are the same in each mode, and the missions can be played in any order (though there is a story progression through both of the 8-mission campaigns). There is no traditional on-rails single player story against waves of enemies.
There are also challenge maps that can be completed to unlock weapons and weapon attachments. Challenge maps will reinforce basic gameplay mechanics as well as teach advanced gameplay techniques, and will feature multiple levels of difficulty.
THERE ARE NO FEMALE PLAYER MODELS IN BRINK. SORRY, THAT'S JUST THE WAY IT IS.
Clothes
There are supposedly hundreds of pieces of clothing and character customization options, including tattoos, piercings and headgear. Clothing options are faction specific, and you can customize the look of each of your characters (up to 10) separately. Clothing items are unlocked by earning XP and Leveling up, which is accomplished by completing just about any action in the game.
Weapons
Weapon and attachment unlocks are only obtainable through completing challenges, which are short bits of gameplay used to teach both basic and advanced tactics in the game. Not a lot is known about what these challenges will be, but we do know there will be at least one parkour/SMART course. There are an unknown number of attachments and customization options, but there are 24 base weapons to choose from. It's also been rumored that weapons can be used by any of your characters, which if true means you only have to unlock a weapon or attachment once.
Perks
Not entirely dissimilar to COD's perk system, each player gets to choose from a set of perks at the start of each round. Perks can be generic, like increased health or damage, or they can be class specific, like faster healing or hacking. There are 58 perks available in the game, but only 20 unlock points per character (20 levels). You can have up to 10 characters, so making characters with different perk loadouts is strongly advisable. You can reset your perks in the customization menu, for the cost of one level.

I mean it's no Fable 2 but it's pretty bad
Do devs aside from like, bungie and blizzard not understand that the interface is almost as important as the actual mechanics of gameplay?
There may be a way in the config to disable that. I might have a look sometime this evening, because yeah, I agree, it gets kind of old after a while.
I dunno, I didn't have too many problems.
Of course, it could be worse. Way worse.
I'm looking at you, computer version of Borderlands.

The unique "flavor" of the game is the parkour which I really haven't mastered yet - depending on on you build you can run, duck, jump, slide, dive etc around the map. The routes aren't obvious at all so it has a true "platforming" feel where you're trying to find new ways to get to places - and most maps have alternate routes that can be opened and closed by on of the various classes - so there's an additional "rock, paper, scissors" balance to the game where one class open certain routes for his team and another class on the other team can erect obstacles like turrets or mines, which can in turn disabled by the opposing team.
My biggest gripe about the parkour is that feels "unnatural" platforming from a first person perspective - some times you'll be leaping around not sure how your really able to make certain moves - I'd much prefer a 3rd person perspective where I can see what I'm doing - but a pretty minor complaint and I'm sure it's just matter of getting used to the interface.

I think because it was a PC title first, and then ported to consoles. I have zero problems navigating on the PC, but I can see how certain things wouldn't lend themselves to controllers.
But I don't feel too bad, seeing as how we PC players got screwed over on BLOPS in the exact same regard.
pleasepaypreacher.net
It has way, way too many moments where it has to prompt at you so that you know you're moving from Menu Level A to Menu Level B, and really none of those should ever be necessary.
Edit: it's not so much that it's impossible to navigate as it is that it strikes me as a team that has no idea how people are going to navigate and is hoping that if they slap an exception on everything it will all work out.
sliding is nice, but when i switched from medium --> to light, whereas before i was winning 1vs2-3 encounters, i'll often lose 1v1 encounters unless i have a decent jump on the person.
most of all, most of all
someone said true love was dead
but i'm bound to fall
bound to fall for you
oh what can i do
I've also found there to be a baffling lack of a 'back' option once I'm done with some customizations. A few times I've landed myself back at the root menu when trying to just go back a single level. Still, I consider this a pretty minor thing overall. I'm just happy playing the game.
Also, I'm seeing a lot of people complaining (on the official forums, not here) about how Brink was a PC game shoddily ported to the consoles. Damn, but it's been a while since I heard that complaint. Usually it's the other way around!
I have to admit I find this rather refreshing.
Question 2: They accidently send me a preorder code for the 360, will I be able to use it on the pc or should I contact the seller?
Yeah, a buddy was watching me play last night and remarked "Why do you instantly die but it takes you a hundred shots to take someone down?"
I had to point out the 8 characters, two with mini guns. :P
like how do you slide tackle someone?
also in case you could figure it out, for soldiers/engies you need to hit the item number to access your special items like molotovs or mines then hit grenade. though i think the engies have to hit F to lay the mine
i am definitely glad i read the manual before jumping on.
I've been so hyped for so long, I'm really disappointed. I'd love to sit this out until it's fixed, but all my friends (on Nvidia!) are playing and having a blast.
I've tried rolling back to 11.2 and 11.3, with no luck. I'm rolling all low settings, and even disabling shadows the game still drags its ass. Container City gets into the teens most of the map. Fuck.
My wife's old computer has an 8800GT in it, I may just have to dig that out? WTF (I have a 5870).
I'm gonna try the hacked up config CarbonFire posted. It'll probably look like painting with water colors, but whatever.
Maybe lots of sliding and hoping and jumping OUT of the fight and then back in would help, as health regen seems slow. So if you know the map, running in and firing, leaping out of harms way and circling around to finish them off might work.
single player is fun but can be really painful, not any worse than pubbing but damn you have an objective and the rest of your team is off trying to take control points.
Had alot of fun last night on one of the PA servers, those escort missions are painful if you are attacking.
Especially if the escort is a person, at least you can hide behind the machines.
I think you slide tackle by crouching while sprinting. I'm still figuring out the mechanics, myself, though.
Is there any access to the manual for those of us who purchased the game on Steam?
I spent two hours trying to complete it last night and I just don't see how it can be done. I can consistently get to the hack part with about 5 minutes left, but then I just stall out. Dudes spawn basically right in front of the hack location and even if I kill the medic + 3 enemies and make a break for the hack, they are shooting me before I can get to safety to hack.
And if someone comes in here and says thats an easy challenge... I will stab you in the neck.
Especially considering that the minute you boot the game it asks you a question you really have no idea how to answer. I haven't even seen a main menu yet and I have to choose a side and create a character without even knowing what happening or how any of it works?
I beat the hack section of that by hacking, then dying, waiting for medic then hacking again until I die. messy but it worked.
Depends entirely on what you were expecting and what system you got it on. All the review copies where the 360 version, which apparently has some pretty bad texture loading unless you install. Also, it's not much of a "console shooter" in the modern sense. There isn't a campaign comparable to Call of Duty or Halo, the "singleplayer" portion of the game is essentially multiplayer maps with bots. I don't think its worth $60 on consoles (especially with PSN being down and all) but I got the game on PC for less than $40. For $40, I got exactly what I was expecting: a smaller scale Enemy Territory game with parkour elements and a neat art direction. Also the character customization is pretty neat.
I've put 10-ish hours into it and I can say I'm still enjoying it but I think you have to know what you're getting into.
Sure, and it can be yours for the low low price of $19.95 (courtesy of Prima Strategy Guides :P)
But yeah, you got the slide tackle part correct. Sprint plus crouch. Can be a little wonky when trying to tackle people running perpendicular to your slide, but generally if you're in front of them, you'll knock them over when you slide.
Oh, I've tried that. So many times. And it has never worked because the medics are horrible at surviving while making their way to where I am dead. Eventually I have to give up and respawn because I can tell they are never going to make it to me.
You can get around facial scarring/tattoo options with some deliberate clothing choices.

(I just set a bunch of Mass Effect 2 screens to "Friends Only" to avoid exposing people to ME2 spoilers, so if you *are* on my Steam friends list don't scroll down.)
I was in the same boat as you, but once you unlock the heavy body type, use that + a machine gun (not the minigun) with the best accuracy rating and extended magazines (or a drum, if you have it) and the challenge becomes somewhat easier. Pick a fast-firing SMG as your back-up. Also, make sure you have the reload on the run perk.
When the round starts, run out of the green screen to kick off the timer, but don't rush the objective straight away, count to 15 and then run up. By that time the enemy bots will have rounded the corner; mow them down with your MG; it does sufficient damage that if you walk up to the boxes to the left of the objective, you can kill them easily. Just watch for medics tossing syringes and when everyone is down, plant the bomb; immediatley retreat the boxes again and use them as cover until you see an engineer attempt to defuse the bomb; focus on him.
The biggest problem are grenades; they knock you down so make sure to watch for the indicator or else you might miss the chance to kill the engineer.
Once the gate is blown, kill the remaining bots and then change quickly to the engineer. Run out of the gate and go to the LEFT, through the "middle" of the courtyard and then up the stairs to your right; hang another right and follow the steps up. For some reason, this is where your bots tend to congregate. Use your SMG to take down any opposition on the same level as you and then use the repair tool on the generator. Typically, the enemy bots don't seem to present much a challenge here. Once it's repaired, when facing the generator turn LEFT and parkour your way over the railings and back to the console to change types again to operative.
This is the hardest part, believe it or not: once you change types, walk out of the little cage and turn RIGHT; by this time your allies and the enemies should be engaged in the courtyard; take out as many as you can see and then turn the corner to hack the device; don't worry about the enemies; keep hacking. If you die, just sprint back to the device this time through the courtyard. Once the hack is finished you need to get to the intel and then run it upstairs; take the same route you did when you fixed the generator.
I know these instructions are a bit verbose, but I've found that your pathing seems to affect how the bots behave; this route seems to be the least intrusive.
Gotta watch the bars though. The farther away you are, the less bars you have, the longer the hack takes.
Gametracker.com says no.
I think it'd be convenient to have the banners in the OP, for easy checking of server status.
