Well how about that. Gilder got me into The Ancient City a while back, then one thing led to another, and suddenly I have an endgame save for all 4 games in the series. I don't know how they got there, I swear! And somehow during all of this, it completely slipped my mind that Gilder had made a thread about it until now.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that if you're reading this and you liked Metroid Prime at all, you should definitely consider tracking down The Ancient City, because it taps into the exact same themes of exploration and isolation, and does them even better than Prime did, in my opinion. Don't be scared away by the talk of extreme difficulty either, because it's been greatly exaggerated. Yeah, they do dump you into huge, dangerous world with not so much as a hint of direction to get you started, but part of the King's Field Experience (tm) is manning up and making that world your own. Even finding the first save point gives you a huge foothold onto the game, and once you find a healing fountain and some crystal flasks (think of them as like the bottles in Zelda), you're set for life.

Oh and I don't know if it's the door you're talking about, Gilder, but
There's a door at the top of the tower that leads to a shortcut between the forest and the tower, with a button to unlock it on the forest side. I'm pretty sure the thief guy hangs out around there as well, but I don't think he sells anything good at that location, so at least you didn't miss much.

Maybe that was the door. Anyway I wonder if anybody else here has experienced the majesty of the trap dungeon that you have. Oh what fun it was every half hour to hear you die to yet another trap that you couldn't possibly see coming and have to start all over again.
