The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Netflix has an underused feature that we should use the hell out of: Local Favorites. Instead of checking random cities myself, maybe you guys could check out your city (or whatever is closest to it) and come up with half-baked theories about why the movies there are there, and let us determine what city sucks ass.
Nashville:
#1 is a pattern repeated all over the place. The Whites got play in the local art-house theater a while back. The two Coens film are there for some reason. Nashville is music city, so that explains Nowhere Boy; music documentaries usually dominate in streaming locally. Twin Peaks is there hooray! Nicole Kidman lives in the suburbs, so that helps her movie.
How does your city look? I want to find something I've never heard of.
Hrmmm, how do you access this without a direct link?
I ask because I'd love to see this, but I don't see it anywhere in Canadian netflix. And I live in such a repressed community that I'd truly love to see what people are watching.
The #1 movie on the list in Kansas City, MO is "What's the Matter with Kansas?" That actually pretty well describes how a lot of people around here feel about Kansas.
There are a couple of other movies related to Missouri-ish things on the list ("The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" [Jesse James was shot by said Coward about 50 miles from where I sit] and "Winter's Bone" which takes place in the Ozarks)
Usually it's filled with redneck stuff. This week it's still mostly that, but there's also a couple very B-rate horror movies and Xena. I live in upstate (rural) New York, so that sounds about right.
EDIT: That's the instant watch list. The DVD list has a little more variety, but seems to trend more toward the Hollywood action flicks and terrible comedies. Seems my rental of Fugazi's Instrument wasn't enough to inject something of substance into the list .
Best Laid Plans
Comanche Moon: Road to Lonesome Dove
The Shadow Riders
The Quick and the Dead
Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken
Carriers
Pure Country 2: The Gift
Amish Grace
Crossfire Trail
Conagher
... I have never heard of any of those (Except Quick and the Dead), although I can at least gather what #2 is.
Of those I can identify:
#16: Madea's Family Reunion
#17: The Happening (Really, Tyler? REALLY?)
In fact, in the top 25 I don't think there are any I can both identify and also say were worth watching, except Quick and the Dead.
1. Departures [Okuribito]
2. Babe
3. Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench
4. Masterpiece Mystery!: Sherlock: Series 1
5. Frost/Nixon
6. Heartbreaker
7. The Sicilian Girl
8. The Station Agent
9. Love Actually
10. The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest
I'm getting a weird redirect when I click that link in Firefox, it keeps taking me back to movies.netflix.com/WiHome (the watch instantly page). Opening it in IE takes me where I'm supposed to go.

Damn you for making me go look, Elki.
I've seen 2 3 4 5 6 9 and 10.
Carriers is actually pretty danged good. I saw Wild Hearts Can't be Broken a long time ago but I think it was decent. The rest are just standard westerns. Granted, opinions may vary because I can't stand Quick and the Dead.
Top 10 for St. Cloud MN. (pretty much right in the geographic center of MN)
#1 Raising Helen (that's weird)
#2 Moondance Alexander (I don't even know what this is, some kind of straight to video cheesy family drama looks god awful)
#3 Lego: Hero Factory: Rise of the rookies (how can a movie title have two colons in it? We must love us some legos too)
#4 The Edge (some Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin thriller with them fighting bears, or so the cover leads me to believe)
#5 The Rescuers Down Under (finally something that looks watchable)
#6 My Own Love Song ( has Renee Zellweger and Forest Whitaker, and is described as a tearjerker. I've never heard of it though, maybe limited release? It is a 2010 film)
#7 The Ultimate Gift (looks terrible from the description, a kind of Brewsters Millions style movie, but a drama. Looks like I might have gotten eye cancer just by reading it)
#8 Old Dogs ( Cheesy disney comedy? Has Robin Williams though and Seth Green, and Travolta. They probably couldn't save this though)
#9 The Boy in the Striped Pajamas ( one little Nazi kid plays with the concentration camp kid, pretty much the saddest movie premise ever)
#10 Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story ( some Kurt Russel and Dakota Fanning feel good schlock. Looks like it has horses too)
That's the top 10. Also notable is #23 Charlie St. Cloud. GET IT! Durf! People be dum!
edit: there are better movies further down the list, but the masses really love those feel good schlock movies.

While scouting out apartments in London for her Venetian boyfriend, Carla rents an apartment that overlooks the Thames. There she meet the lesbian hyper-horny real estate agent Moira.

There is something hilarious about Raging Bull (why that's #1 I have no idea) on a list right next to Barbie: A Fashion Fairytale. I would imagine there would be very little overlap on those two.

Netflix says I'm in or around Lynchburg, VA. I'm actually about an hour's drive away, but whatever.
If you know anything about Lynchburg then some of these might not be a surprise. I'm including both the top-20 of the regular "local favorites" as well as what it suggests to me on the front page, because those results are just so...so...wholesome.
For Baton Rouge, It could be alot worse. Wonder how long a time frame the list measures over.
