Flowcharts 101

Anyone know of good (free) software that lets me draw flowchart diagrams and possibly export them as images? Word is kind of shitty to line up boxes and arrows and Paint is even shittier. It'd take ages for me to make a simple diagram in Word without looking like someone barfed spaghetti on my screen. So, yeah, H&A is appreciated!

But seriously, I've used gliffy.com in the past for quick stuff.

Dia is supposed to be good. OpenOffice Draw is also pretty decent for flowcharts.

I use Gliffy and Dia. Both are pretty good and I'd recommend both to anyone.

you can also download and use MS Visio for 60 days free as a trial/demo, and if you do these things on a consistent basis it would probably be worth picking up.

http://www.lovelycharts.com/ is VERY easy to use, and the results look pretty great. It's a pay service, but you can have a single flowchart at any given time on a free account to see if you like it.

Yeah, Visio is the standard, so if you learn it, it's helpful.

Visio is indeed the standard. Dia will work in a pinch but I don't enjoy the UI.

Do you have PowerPoint? PowerPoint is great for simple flowcharts and even includes all the flowcharting symbols on the default palette.
