I like the sign tree best, but swordsman is good. If your bag is roll-hit-repeat probably swordsman is best.
The chapter 2 rotfiend contract question:
I can't find the last body! I found three in the canyon east of the camp, three by the wagon, and then two more more or less south of the camp by the soldiers. Where's the last one? I've used my medallion over every inch of that area and can't find it...
Edit: NVM found it. To the SW on a rise if anyone else had the same problem.
Quest log question: Some completed quests have a check mark. Some have a shield and a check mark. Others have a shield but no check mark. (not completed obviously).
Por qué?
edit. Think I figured it out. Shield denotes 'main' quest line. Shieldless quests are side quests.

Finally finished the prologue. Well, the painful part anyway.
So I'm at what I presume to be pretty near the end of chapter 3.
And seriously, fuck this dragon fight. This is so bad I don't even want to finish the game anymore. Who thought this was a good idea?
It's an idiotic fight. The most effective, safe method I found was this.
Shield up first of all. Then, basically just hug the edge when it's circling around. If he's on 12, as someone else said, be on 3. When he moves, you move towards him, hit him with a strong, then roll away. Repeat for like 30 minutes. Congratulations, you win.
King Foltest is what happens when a fratbro pulls the sword out of the stone.
Also he is not a duck
There is no "fratbro" in the world cool enough to be like King Foltest.
There is no fratbro worthy of the stereotype that knows train-spotter details about ballista.
THIS I LIKE.

Just got to the the dwarf town. Witcher dwarves are awesome... this game's dialogue is ace, my compliments to the writer and the translator too (I assume it was written in Polish)
do more get added? I picked them all up but I don't think they got added to the journal, now someone mentioned above about the rotfiend contract and I don't remember picking that up, the board is clear too and it's not in journal..
I hope so. It's been a battle to get it to stop having frame skips every second and a half curing cutscenes and in certain areas. I reverted to 11.4 and disabled Catalyst A.I., and thought that fixed it, but started it up today and it was back. I'm thinking it's either me disabling some processes (java, iTunes related processes, instant messaging programs) or turning off vertical sync that is helping the most.
It's almost certainly the disabling of programs. I have an HD 5700 that people are having problems with. My game is running just fine, but I run a very tight ship on my computer. I don't have any "loose" processes running in the background that don't need to be.
However, when I got stuck on a quest and alt tabbed to pull up firefox to look for it, I started getting the exact skipping phenomenon everyone is talking about. It was easy to test as well, because as soon as I closed firefox it went away immediately. I did this a few times just to make sure.

Oh my, the really did a great job with the 360 pad guys. If you have one, give it a whirl. I think I may actually prefer it to kbam. If only there was an auto-centre camera function. Oh, and I'm just running around the wilds and killing everything. I'm trying to find Malena after the you-know-what at the waterfall. There's no markers indicating her location. HALP
Who do I talk to, to find out information about who killed the she-troll?
Spendler? The poacher just outside the city. He actually has her head on his wall (you want to win this if you're being nice to the troll, but you can only get one "gift" off your first win so make sure it's that.)
He'll move you along to the next part.

Burned-down nut house. She's cowering in an alcove in the ruined walls before you go down.

You mean the hospital where the wraiths are?
Also, there is absolutely no journal entry regarding the nekker nests. All it says is
to blow it up. No mention of what type of bomb to use or anything
Also also, my damn monk bonus thing hasn't worked either, there's nothing in the extras menu and clicking on the 'registered users' selection on the launcher simply takes me to the games website.
Finally figured out what the hell I was doing wrong with the damn endrega queens. You need to just let them get snared in your Yrden. What I was doing was rolling/running too soon to get into position, and they broke out of it every time. I was hearing some rumblings of needing to level up the skill, or your signs in general. Not really an options since I'm Level 7. But after an hour of reloading on that fight, I just stood my ground each time while she got trapped, and 100% of the time it was for real and I was able to get in 3 heavy swings to the abdomen. Took about 5 traps, and I didn't even get hit. Hope this helps someone (maybe not, since I seem to be the only one that was stuck here). Now I just have to find the other one . . . .
What do you guys recommend - Dagger Throwing or Hardiness (+10 Vitality, +50 at its second tier)?
And this game controls so much better with the Xbox 360 gamepad. I'm glad they included support for it.
I have the first level of dagger throwing. I'm pretty meh about it. I thought you only needed one dagger equipped and you could use it as much as you like, but one dagger is ONE throw. It does decent damage but I don't think it's worth it considering everything else I could do in that cooldown time. I might max it if I was going swordsman (going signs instead).
I pretty much don't give much of a shit about vitality. If I'm playing correctly, I shouldn't be taking damage (at least in normal mode).
You have 3 layers of knowledge for each monster, you can get info from various sources this time not just from books, you can learn this stuff by asking around, exploring their lairs and stomping grounds and how many you've killed.
I suspect I am close to breaking out of prison. The dude with the headwrap asked me what I'll do when I got out of jail and I said "hunt down the killer". I only said that though so he would be more likely to let me out. What is my motivation to hunt this killer? As far as I can tell Geralt didn't even like the king.

Clearing his name? Going after someone who's a dick and deserves a sword in the throat?

That the entire kingdom would be after Geralt's head, after all the killing of the king has been pinned on the White Wolf. Also Geralt recognises the chap who killed the king (or just noted his cat like eyes, which are similar to his own. . . )

Okay, this is driving me nuts... "Hey, the Mine is Working" (or some similar quest title) from Act II: Dirty Dirty Squirrel Edition:
I have collapsed two of the tunnels and can't for the life of me find the third one. I've explored the entire mine and finished the associated main story quest. The two tunnels I've found to collapse are the middle-west one close to the entrance, and the one in the mid-north part of the mine. Where the fuck is the third one? I'm so sick of rotfiends...
Also, dwarf banter is the best banter.

Wow. Ok. I started reading the old thread mid way through yesterday sparingly then caved.
I heard the game was brutal and I should play on hard. I watched and read everything up to the
"Run down the flaming wooden buildings while some stupid bitch sets you on fire again and again and again."
I have caught fleeting glances of the old wing but 50 odd deaths in maybe more so far.
Only a single peek into the gate room so far, upon entry everyone yelled "the gate is shut"
Then a solder stabbed me in the face as bitch set me on fire again.
I must admit I really have no fucking idea what's going on. At basically the second active sequence I
am not hitting tail or getting punched in the face. Pow fire.
My attempts at Sam Fishering down the flame tunnels of misery and pain from a rear gaurd position.
That seems to fail again and again. I can kill everyone up to the gate room and have most of my health but
I cannot escape the fiery temptress as I walk around the fiery right angle of doom.
In my squinted glances in the thread for references to "Fire" and "Things not being catched on"
I haven't seen any clear instructions on how not die.
I have also seen references to a back stab ability that I probably am still yet to pass.
Can I get that dead guy on the hay still if I haven't passed the tunnels of flame?
This games is like Trials 2 or Super Meat Boy. Death and destruction. I love it.
I'm definitely going to buy this when I have time to play it (i.e. not immediately, because I'm backlogged severely). But I still can't decide what version I want to get.
On one hand, there's the Digital Premium edition from GoG. No paper goodies, but you get the PDF artbook, and it's DRM-free and retail price.
On the other hand, there's the collector's edition, which has the paper version of the artbook but is an extra sixty bucks. I don't really care about the rest of the stuff, but the Witcher 1 artbook was incredible and is about the only one that's come with a game that I've actually looked at a number of times. A PDF just isn't the same. But sixty bucks for an artbook is a little too pricy for me :P
Maybe I'll keep hoping for a sale on the collector's edition while I work on my backlog.

i have a pretty swanky wither 1 save of my own
but W2 says I have none
how do I make it see the light?
If I click either Create Account or Log In, it won't let me type anything into the fields.
If I go to thewitcher.com in my browser the Log In and Register links are not working as well.
