Guys whats the white line that fills up and then drops out above the health meter? i thought this was like the adrenaline bar but apparently its not and that goes under the bar when you can use it.. the manual says nothing of it, only thing i can think of it being is how many times you can use Z to search? that or its an XP bar?
It's your XP bar. When it fills up, you get a level.
The 'scan' thingy works only when the medallion lights up. The little wolf thing on the top left corner, next to the XP bar. Use it, then you gotta wait for it to flash its eyes before being able to use it again.

God, I really need a decent gpu for this game. Its great being able to play at 30fps on a cheapass card but I really ought to get something to show the game off a little.
What makes for the more interesting story, sparing Aryan or killing him?Or doesn't it matter at all in the end?
Well, if you kill him you get a chance to see his mom's boobs as she is the one in the torture chamber later and not him.
No you don't. They removed that scene because people were having the wrong reaction to it.
pretty sure that whole section is still in
if you killed aryan
When I killed Ayran, the Nilfgaardian ambassador just went and got her and then signaled Geralt to take a certain door when there would have been that section otherwise.

Yeah, I got that path. Still in.
And wow this game will need to be played through at least twice to see a lot of the stuff. Reloading after dying and not saving for a while has led to some different developments.

seems different each time, theres one
where ayran is getting tortured instead of him breaking free before that happens
Reason #54 why I hate not being able to drink potions except when meditating:
Chapter1 spoilers
So I'm at the kayran and I didn't even jump down into its lair, the game fucking cut-scene teleported me down there. Now I can't drink the mongoose potion I fucked around searching caves for the ingredient to make, let alone my other potions. And the autosave kindly saved me down in the pit already so no loading back to beforehand.
One other question. I remember in the other thread, a day or so before I bought the game, people were talking about finding special perks in certain areas. Things that gave you +20% to backstab, etc. I haven't run into a single one of these yet, even though I've been looting everything and spamming the loot-finder (another cool mechanic) everywhere.
You pick them up in the prologue, massive spoilers below.
20% backstab damage for finding the assassin during the assault.
50 extra carrying capacity for rescuing Aryan from the dungeon.
10% reduced damage for staying under Triss' shield the whole time going to Flotsam.
You also get 1 level in persuasion, hex or intimidate whenever you do one of them successfully up to a level of 3, but I'm not sure if that really does anything.
you get perks like this in other chapters too, i got one in chapter 1 for
beating ves at drunken knife throwing at the party
Question about pick ups
I stayed under the shield the whole time but didn't get anything. Do you also have to kill everything? Can a small bit of you come out of the shield?

I was out of it for quite a while, killing off dudes and still got that. Weird.
How the fuck do I get to the debate? I just turned Anais over the Radovid, now it's telling me I have to go to the debate. I can't find my way there! There's no way through this place is a goddamn maze. The minimap is useless useless useless. Please, someone help me. This is the dumbest possible thing to get stuck on.

There's a similar quest in one of the paths through chapter 2 that's pretty fantastic. Like, I didn't do good enough witchering and some pretty fucked up stuff happened to a dude that probably didn't deserve it.
A question for you guys: what's your PC's average CPU and GPU temperature when running the game?
I've heard that someone got 80C with an HD 6950, even with an adequate cooling system.
That sort of high temperatures aren't uncommon with performance GPUs (and they're generally more tolerant of it than, say, your CPU), so I wouldn't sweat it.
W2 is one of those few games that routinely pegs all four cores of my processor to pretty high loads and 100% GPU load almost all the time. Fucking heavy shit.

I hit 50c or so on my GPU (gtx 560 Ti OC'd, with a dual fan cooler.) game runs fantastically though, no slowdowns at all, runs consistently above 40fps all the time. Everything maxxed but ubersample. CPU I notice it hits all 4 cores a lot too, first game i've seen do that.
I got it from the merchant that you negotiated with about payment for killing the Kayran.
Hmm where does that dude hang out after you finish the questline?
He hangs out near the harbor where you first enter Flotsam. He didn't sell it but gave it to me as a quest reward.
I don't seem to be able to get to that guy. There's a merchant in a house that has a locked door and no other entrance. That might be him. Oh well. I have the Hunter's Armor which has 3 slots, 10 armor and 30% res to things. I guess that's close to the Carapace stats?
The scene with the mother is definitely still in, as I saw it yesterday. Whether you see the ambassador escorting her out or save her from the torturer depends on which route you take. If you go along the level path, you come to the hall where she is led out. Not sure if she was tortured or not that way - she curses/swears vengeance on someone in the room she left, which leads to the torture chamber, but she didn't seem in any pain so probably was interrupted.
To save her, you go up the stairs at the earliest option, knock out the guard that's going to rape the elf, grab the key, open the locked door at the bottom of the stairs and drop down into the tunnels that lead to the torture room.
Edit: Actually, the only difference I notice from the old trailer is that Geralt turns and offers that she cover herself, whereas in the trailer she asks him to turn and let her cover herself. Otherwise pretty much the same.
I just want to reiterate to anyone having problems with the combat. If you have a 360 controller, fucking use it. It's like night and day.
On my first playthrough of the prologue, I died multiple times in almost every encounter. Once I got to the jail sequence I decided to give the controller a try and restarted (so I could catch all the tutorial tips and practice with it). I only died twice that playthrough-both were totally my fault.
So where the hell is Cecil in Vergen? I need to poker this bastard and I can't find him. The map is useless since it points me to a little hill with nothing on it and I've been running around the city trying to find this jackass.

Kill Aryan, yes? If you don't kill him, then he'll be the one in the dungeon.

Removing them from the OP may have been a bit drastic. After checking the seven saves previously posted in thread, only one of them had 245k. The others were all around 5k-20k, though I'm guessing the big money one was popular - neutral/Triss.
Anyway, I ran through them quickly and set them all at 15k gold, a bit less than the 20k you get at game end, and packed them together. I haven't tried any of them so I have no idea about anything more than the faction/lady decisions which are reported from their original posting.
As a note, if you just edit one of those hacked save game files and then import it into the second game, you'll still find yourself with the pre-edited amount of obscene money. You have to edit the hacked file, load it into the original game, save again, and then use your new save in The Witcher 2.
Edit: Whoops, I could have just put this post into my above one. I'm too tired. Sorry about two posts in a row.

The prologue dungeon has two
diifrent scenes. If you turn left at the first flight of stairs and walk past the prisoner who calls out to the guards whe he sees you, an enter the door you'll get a different scene of Aryan/the baroness than you would get if you used the underpassage to sneak up on the executioner
So does importing a save really effect very much at all beyond the equipment and money you have after the prologue?
Yes. Not content changes necessarily, but it's also not like Mass Effect's obligatory reference in an email for the sake of a reference. There are conversations and situations that turn up where it's natural for choices from the first game to be relevant. Whatever happened with Adda gets mentioned with a fair amount of frequency, since it's kind of important to the state of the world given the premise of the story. The only thing that seems to be ignored is the Shani/Triss choice. You're always put in a relationship with Triss at the beginning of the game.
Question: What exactly is sign intensity? How does it differ than just +X sign damage?
Apparently it's a damage multiplier, according to the in-game description (which is hard as hell to find). So +1 Sign Intensity apparently means +100% sign damage.
So uh.. what happens if you pick two andrenaline abilities?
Also, does Sign Intensity effects the reflected damage from Quen?

"All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes to make it possible." - T.E. Lawrence
The difference between the combat experience after getting used to blocks, rolls, signs, bombs, pots, and traps compared to the first time I was mashing light attacks on the first fight is immense.
The combat prologue is truly a joke now even with un-upgraded abilities.
So uh.. what happens if you pick two andrenaline abilities?
They all get triggered at the same time. Like if you have the time slowing sign and group finishers, Geralt will do a group finisher and then the sign's bubble will pop out.

That sounds like it could get pretty crazy. In chapter two
you can easily get +20 sign intensity from a robust blue meteorite sword fitted with a pair of moon runes and from the mage gloves found not far from camp.
Oh how I wish you could repec. Now I'm tempted to restart and go the sign tree route.
Ah that clears things up a bit. I may restart anyway. I'm not very pleased with some of the skills I've chosen. Redirecting arrows and throwing daggers aren't nearly as useful as I had originally hoped they would be.
