I recently upgraded my phone from a Droid X to a Thunderbolt and have run into a rather interesting anomoly that Google's not helping e research.
My old phone's data plan is still working. It's receiving e-mails, surfing the internet, and generally doing stuff that phones without a calling plan do.
What's going on here? Does it stay connected until an IP Address renewal or something? Should I be worried? I've left it alone out of curiosity.
Very valid question sir, and I can indeed tell you that the WiFi card is off. And when I encountered the anomoly I was at the Verizon store, which had not open wireless networks nearby. Hell, I even pointed it out to the representives at the store, who were also baffled.
I will admit that the phone is rooted and Gingerbread is installed on it.
Since its CDMA, they probably just havent deactivated it. They dont have to either, it will just continue to count against your data/minutes when you use it since its still linked to your account.

Are you sure it's connected to your network and not just on wi-fi?

My phones have always cut off immediately or within minutes of new activation, so not sure. Maybe just some switch along the chain failed.
