I'm amazingly excited for the Ocarina of Time remake so I'll just keep my opinions to myself about HD remakes. Though it does irk me that I know there are people out there that simultaneously hated on the Wii new play control rereleases of GameCube games and get all hot and bothered by every new HD remake.
Though to be fair all the remakes so far have been collections which is pretty cool and convenient.

Peace Walker came out last year. MGS2 and 3 are last-gen games and the former is out for the 360 already.
Peace Walker was released on a current generation portable, and has the worst controls I've ever tried to make sense of. Just think of it as a multiplatform release?
MGS2:Substance for the Xbox is not BC on the 360. I don't know what else you could be referring to, there.
Not much of a collection when you've got huge chunks of the series missing. Peace Walker is also a game that was built from the ground-up to be a portable experience, with missions rarely lasting past the 10 minute mark, if that (but with plenty of checkpoints throughout)... I don't see the game translating well to a sit-down experience.
I'm a huge MGS fan (Bought MGS1/2/3 twice each, originals plus Twin Snakes, Substance and Subsistence) but there is nothing new to the table here. The games in this HD remakes aren't even the fancy updated ones that I've already got.
Guess this product just isn't pitched to a consumer with my history *shrugs* No new information at ALL on Rising is pretty ghey too
Why is that amazing? They're selling you games that you've already played and have probably already bought. For what? The convenience of them all on a single disc? The high definition upscaling of these decade old games? Despite the UI being a bit nicer, and apparently the audio being a bit clearer (which is to say nothing of achievements and trophies, which I simply do not care about at all), these are the same fucking games.
The. Same. Fucking. Games.
Only a bit sharper.
It's amazing because it's not limited to the PS3, you killjoy. Yes, it's the same games. That's what a collection tends to be, made up of previously released material. Why are people excited about Beyond Good & Evil HD? Why do people want an HD update of Halo CE? Why were people flipping the fuck put over REmake?
Actually, the best question here is this: why are you so butthurt over this?
I'm excited because I love my 360 and think it has the far superior controller. I also love MGS2, and Snake Eater is one of my favorite games of all time. Sorry you are so upset about this...
Because in the same breath as people praised the re-release of vintage Konami games as HD remakes, they also decried the shallow and pathetic showings of new titles. These two things are related.
If you're complaining about a dearth of quality new games, then the last thing you should do is praise the re-release of old games. Why would Konami ever bother to come up with something new when people lap up their old games time after time after time. How many good games' wikipedia entry has an entire segment on 'Rereleases'?
People want a HD Remake of Halo:Combat evolved because it is the best Halo game and its only downside, even on release, was performance. And because they're stupid and just want to buy something twice.
I don't doubt there is a specific set of circumstances that could warrant rebuying these games. And I'm not 'butthurt' over this, as ridiculous a phrase as that is. But when the main talking point of an e3 conference is them re-releasing old games, then there is a significant problem with the creativity and management of that developer/publisher.
I've already played MGS2. Lots of people have. Those that haven't, yeah this HD repack is a nice thing and will certainly be convenient. But that's all it should remain. A convenience. Not a high-fiving, fuck yeah'ing, billboard release for a publisher that has absolutely nothing else to show for itself.
I'm less excited about the MGS collection because I'm one of the 10 people who owns a 3DS, and, well, I have my doubts about "Transfarring" working between an xbox and a 3ds.
Why the hell would you make a collection and not include the first game? It boggles the mind!
Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill, and I mean the first game in each series, left the STRONGEST impressions on me from each series and they were the best games in their respective series. So I mean... yeah, why the fuck are they being left out? That's fucking awful.
They're also both PS1 games, and making them 'HD' would probably involve quite a bit more than just cleaning up some textures. And I'm guessing Konami probably don't want to spend too much money on these things.
I'll end up buying them for Peace Walker and ZoE2, which I've never played. MGS2, MGS3 and ZoE1 will be nice bonuses.

Konami can repackage and resell "classic" nostalgia all they want, but at what cost? You can spend your time HDifying Raiden slipping in bird shit...but that doesn't mean it's to be done.
If they had presented some over the moon awesome original title (or even a decent looking sequel) it would be a moot point. Never Dead is the laziest looking effort I've seen in awhile. A developer that's creatively bankrupt needs to spend a little more time brainstorming and a lot less time finding new ways to sell the same old shit.
...and I'm sure that Kojima's Fox Engine will be the "best in the world for this hypothetical game that I might show you at E3...next year." Also...ZOE3! Just kidding!!! It's hilarious because people want that, get it?

Valid points all around, and I apologize for saying butthurt. That's the first time I've ever used that term, and it felt wrong.
That being said, I never commented on the lack of new games. So really your complaint was about other peoples' hypocrisy, I guess? Fair enough, I can see that. I'm just easy to please, I guess. And like I edited intoy last post, I'm happy about this collection because it's the only way I can go back and play them. Plus, it won't look like garbage on my 50" plasma, which PS2 games tend to do.

Never Dead was unimpressive. The HD collections were unimpressive. Focusing on HD collections at the expense of cool new IPs is nonplussing. Joking about ZOE3 is very nonplussing.

First of all, I really don't think it's your place to tell people what to be excited about. You are being the biggest wet blanket right now
Secondly, I seriously doubt that remastering these games took significant time or money away from developing new and different games. Konami is a large company, they can do multiple things at the same time. And besides, you really think if they weren't doing this they'd be doing something new and different?
Thirdly, the first Halo is decidedly not the best Halo. Unless the remake radically changes the entire Library section of the game
I agree that it is disappointing they don't have anything else huge to talk about, but to blame the HD collections for that fact is stupid. The reason they are playing up the collections is because they have nothing else to show, yes, but the reason they have nothing else to show is not because they were developing the collections
Never Dead looked like shit. I'm sure there will be some purpose to dismembering yourself, but it looked completely superfluous and random in the trailer. Hey, here I am taking my head off! Look, I'm jumping around without legs! Fucking dumb.
Come to think of it, I'ver never played Peace Walker, so yea.
Also, how hard could it have been to HDify "Twin Snakes?"
It's possible that there are rights issues concerning Twin Snakes. Silicon Knights worked on it under contract for Nintendo, so Nintendo probably owns their original work on the program and music, and whatever else SK created. I believe Konami did the graphics, but if Nintendo paid for the project they could still have partial ownership or a contract thing that forbids Konami from using them without Nintendo's blessing.

Konami isn't the richest company though, they have to spend their assets wisely. And while remastering games may not take significant time or money, they should have things to show for NEW titles then, right? We barely got anything new.

For comparison, the God of War Collection took a small team (Bluepoint Games, who'd previously only developed a PSN title called Blast Factor) like 3 months to port both games, so I kinda doubt they've got 100 porting these games or something.
And I agree with everything you said that I didn't quote.
The real reason Konami didn't have anything else to show is because for the most part, they fucking suck this gen. Kojima's working on something, sure, but otherwise? Eh. They've closed down Team Silent and who knows where the fuck the Suikoden team have disappeared to, so HD Collections and Kojima's next game are the only things they've got to catch my interest.
Am I the only one who thought NeverDead looked awesome?
I dunno, the gameplay looked generic and the art looked a little.. I dunno, I seem to recall it being a bit.. chocky. Like it was running at a lower resolution and then upressed.

The graphics did look a little shitty, though honestly I don't particularly care that much. They weren't bad enough that if the game was actually good, it would bother me.
At the very least that means they still think about it occasionally, which is a good sign that one day they may make a sequel when Kojima gets bored with whatever hes doing.

Silent Hill continues to lose the atmosphere that made 1-3 masterpieces.
MGS Rising is on track to become vaporware by 2012.
