but at least the new Mike and Herzog films are apparently brilliant
Do you mean Miike, the director of the god damn fantastic 13 Assassins? Because if not then whatever you're talking about probably isn't as impressive and we should talk about 13 Assassins instead.
Also if the Herzog film you're talking about is Cave of Forgotten Dreams I found that movie to be incredibly boring for the most part. The anthropological aspects were interesting but I found the time Herzog spent romanticizing to be pretty dull, although I could see how someone who has an outlook more like Herzog could really enjoy it.
I mean if you find the cave paintings dull then your probably won't like it, the 15 or so minutes of nothing but the paintings with no narration is one of the best things I've seen all year (see it in 3D)

I saw it at the AFI near me and it wasn't in 3D which sucked because I heard the 3D was amazing
The cave drawings were actually really cool, and that sequence with no narration was actually really neat but
I thought the heartbeat was kind of silly even though I could see why he put it in
Trying to think of a specific example of what I didn't like what comes to mind is at one point in the first 30 minutes or so Herzog is interviewing a scientist (skinny white nerd with an accent who I think was involved in the laser cave mapping)
and the guy is talking about it how they can see where the people would have gone to paint or something and Herzog asks "yes but will we know how they dreamed?" or something to that effect and that didn't do anything for me
Also the theater was uncomfortably warm which didn't help
it's showing you how people tens of thousands of years ago viewed their world, a world completely different to ours, and yet we can still understand it perfectly
it's amazing and fuck you if you disagree, basically
those are the hands of people from tens of thousands of years ago, with which you share little to no cultural bonds and yet they've still left a little stamp of universal humanity there
The fact that critics hate this only make me more likely to go and see it
And yes cave painting are awesome in the literal sense that for me, they inspire awe in the same way that structures such as the Coliseum and so on do.
the caves are the main attraction in the movie, in encounters at the edge of the world it became the characters more than the location. This aint the case with this movie, there are some interesting folks in it but not to the same level.
The section I mentioned, in 3D, is about as close as we'll ever get to being able to look around in person so you'll either enjoy that or you won't care.

Please tell me how they viewed the world.
Cause as cool as they are.
They aren't showing me how they viewed the world unless they were that one dude from pan's labyrinth.

I really wanted to see this in 3D but I don't think it opened anywhere near me

They thought there were a shitload of turkeys back then?
Turkeys bigger than a man. Venomous too. With razor sharp spurs the size of a katana. A gobble from a male dire turkey could cause a person to shit themselves.
We have plans of seeing a comic book movie tomorrow night.
Could be this.
Could be First Class.
Honestly, we're both hoping that the reviews for this pick up once its released. No whammies, no whammies, no whammies.
Go see First Class
(actually go see Super 8, but def see First Class over Green Lantern)
I have been told that under no circumstances are we going to see Super 8.
I'm a chicken shit when it comes to "horror" movies, but enjoyed the hell out of Cloverfield. Little did I know that she didn't sleep well for days after seeing the very same movie.

First Class is climbing the ranks.
Super 8 has like one or two jump scares. It's more like The Goonies than Cloverfield.

You understand that if I roll the dice on your suggestion and come up wrong that I will be in so much shit that I won't see the honey pot for a good couple of weeks, right?
Blake: Excellent to hear. It's really likely we'll end up seeing that tomorrow instead.
Yes Zip, First Class is the best choice. Go see it.
I've pretty much lost any hope of GL being worthwhile at this point. It looked like it had potential, but with those ratings it seems the obvious choice is to just give it a miss.

POTC: On Stranger Tides has become the highest grossing film overseas in Disney history
$211 million in the US.
$907 million overseas.
you are a special case, TLB
you are a maverick who doesn't play by the rules
I could also punch you in the face for suggesting I do a thing for myself
I ain't readin'
do I look like a nerd to you?
now gimme that summary
the gist seems to be that the director and writers didn't understand "show, don't tell"
you're supposed to take their word that the Lanterns are supposed to be badass without their ever being badasses
I mean. It can't be THAT bad right?
boring?
that is the worst
My friend saw it and said it was awesome.

there is no way to make '15 or so minutes of nothing but the paintings with no narration' sound exciting
it's impossible

no there is really no way to describe "15 minutes of no talking" that makes it seem exciting, it really was a good sequence though

Not so much about GL. (RR was a turrible choice for Hal - maybe Kyle, but never Hal)
