I think there's something to be said about the fact that they didn't show the console itself or mention any hardware details

i'm definitely questioning whether all these big name games will get dumbed down like all the wii ones did

Probably. They seem to want to keep the Wiimote alive and well on this new console despite its main selling point being this brand new controller.

    There's a weird disconnect between:

The first-party videos of the Wii-U that looked like they belonged on the Wii.

The bird scene (which was/wasn't pre-rendered?).

The third party videos - were these actually being rendered on the Wii-U?

    --

And then: so it's connected to an HD base station console of some sort? It can't be the Wii, since that wasn't capable of HD.

What's the battery life for the screen?

How much will the base unit cost, and even more importantly how much for the additional Wii-U controller?

Will I need the Wii-U controller and a Wii controller for motion games?

I played the shit out of my Wii before it broke. Mostly playing stuff like Super Metroid and Bubble Bobble though.

I'm probably going to get one of these.

I just really, really hope that I can use that iPad thingmajig to play games without having to fuck around with motion controls.

I want to press A to throw a football, not do a little dance.

If they allow you to draw plays in Madden without having to do anything, and do it in game, but still allow you not to waggle around for playing the game

I probably will never play Madden on another console

The ninja gaiden stuff shown for WiiU was just the game trailer revealed yesterday, so doubt that was actuallyoff of the console

I dunno, announcing a next gen console with a major selling point being 'can play current gen games' seems a little weak. Going to need to see some actual new stuff

You won't NEED the new controller, they've already said that. It will just enhance the experience if you have one, and in some games, give you an advantage.

The WiiU is basically the ending to LOST.

Some people understood what happened and were either happy or sad.

A lot more people are mouth breathing retards who think they were dead the whole time.

Except the ending to LOST was actually less ambiguous. Jesus nintendo.

I doubt the battery life will be bad. The reason handhelds chew through batteries is all the processing. The screen looks like it's just a monitor.

    Drawing plays would be cool.

Calling audibles from the pad would be cool too.

Made make a coach mode where you use the pad like a playbook, call the plays and watch it on your tv.

at any rate, i'll be glad when e3 is over so the forum stabilizes a bit.

Basically, I am cautiously optimistic for the WiiU and will NEED to buy a 3DS.

So its 5 years ago again with a U and a 3 tacked on, respectively.

Nintendo just announced the Wii U on stage at its E3 press conference, and while the new controller is interesting, we're all wondering just how powerful this "HD" console is. Game Informer's seen the demos shown off on stage in person, and apparently it's about as nice as you'd imagine: Not quite as high quality as the other HD consoles, but definitely better than the standard Wii.

If that's actually the case then damn consider me incredibly disappointed

so it's not as powerful as the current consoles, which are probably going to replaced in 2-3 years, and probably won't even come out for a year. That's a narrow window of technical parity they're aiming for

Games cost $60 because of people who focus on graphics to the exclusion to all else. Graphics have a place, but I want it balanced with everything else. I stopped playing games when they became expensive pieces of junk that looked pretty.

With the way it was presented and the naming convention, I would not fault anyone for coming away from that conference and thinking the Wii-U was just the slate/controller, or of being confused whether the controller was designed to work with the original Wii.

I mean, I could see a white something in the background beside the TV from the livestream, but that's about as close as they got.

I have a feeling they have tried to keep the console as cheap as possible (which results in falling short of PS3/360 power) because the controller is going to be rather expensive compared to a PS3/360 controller.

Keep in mind the technology in the 360/ps3 is about 6 years old if not more. It would be pretty difficult to make a console nowadays thats less powerful then either of those two systems. Also you have to remember that xbox/ps3 games have gotten better looking over time even though the hardware hasnt changed, so you can assuming the same thing will happen with the wiiu.

I seriously doubt that it is weaker, or will be weaker, than the current gen. It was rumored to be more powerful than PS3 and 360. I know that doesn't mean much but come on. That would be abysmally stupid of nintendo.
