The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
You know Blast. you love blast.
But did you know it originated from Drum Corps International?
That's right friends, the worlds premier competitive circuit for Junior Drum and Bugle corps!
DCI is like your high school marching band, only everyone actually wants to be there and is better than the best kid in your band, and practices 24/7 for four months, and has world-class staff and design teams.
DCi is like your college band, only instead of fight songs they play Dvorak, and instead of throwing up after too much post-game band party drinking, they throw down.
If you're new to this thing, you might be interested in the Cavaliers. They're generally cool enough to look at that you forget you're watching some sort of overgrown mutant marching band.
Ah yes, convertibles. The closest humankind has ever gotten to transformers.
Everyone should check out dci.org/schedule and go see shows.
Also I am expecting great things out of this year. Phantom should be good, bluecoats seem to be doing weird multi-melodic things, and the cadets might actually knock BD of their manskirt pedestal.

wrong sorry oboe is the best sounding instrument in the orchestra.
cello fags can suck it.
Pipe, the orchestra called, they said they needed some kindling, but they didn't want a bitch flame, so they left the oboe alone.
I kid because I love.

I always advise those unsure of their audition chances that it matters less how good you are and matters more how much you have your shit together. If you do anything at all for 24hours a day, every day for four months, you will get good at it- assuming you are willing to put in the effort and take instructions.

I'm still waiting for Captain K to regale us with Tales from the Tour Road.
I miss my mellophone. I miss ripping from low G up to like, a fucking squeal at a million decibels.
Maybe I'll get a horn for my birthday, get back into it.
Never marched DCI, but BOA trips to Indy were the highlights of high school for me.
We did Mangione my freshman year. Children of Sanchez still makes me feel 15 every time I hear it. Only band nerds could be nostalgic for 40-year-old jazz instrumentals.

Paging Captain K.
no, not one of those candy-ass sousaphones I said a marching tuba
a.k.a. the tubazooka
Related note: shoulder euphoniums - lamest thing ever.

these were the real deal
you could unscrew a couple of the pipes and move them around and they would double as concert tubas the rest of the year

You could have picked up percussion. I had a friend do that.
I'll be aging out the year with the Glassmen, my third year with the corps.
Dick shapes are a speciality. Carolina Crown had a real good one a few years back.

That gave my director a good laugh.

Have I mentioned how awesome Icy-Hot patches are?
EDIT: Also, Nap looks like he's about to shank somebody in that photo.
