Had a chance to play this at Pax East - it was really fun. The narrator got old though. The scripting for the narrator is great, it comes in at just the right times - but the actual voice is grating. If they had just used a different person's voice it would be better.
That said, I'll buy it because the gameplay and graphic style are both well done.
I fail to see how an interactive voice could get old sounding. After all we have all been listening to the same music/sounds for about 25 years when link opens a chest....or picks up rupee.....or has less then 3 hearts of life....or ...you get the picture.

Yes, but an audible cue is a lot less irritating than repeated words occurring over and over again. Listen to the commentary in any sports game (FIFA my main experience) and you'll learn the phrases after just a few games, and quickly get irritated with them.

Oh man... Madden 09 was the worst. You could literally hear everything Chris Collinsworth had to say in one game.

If you genuinely never hear the same line twice, then fair enough. Although when I watched the trailer the other day, I remember not being a big fan of the voice. Might have to give it another go.
But they said he doesn't repeat a line. The people complaining just seem to not like his voice, which is a personal taste issue. They are also crazy.
It was definitely a personal taste issue for me. The voice was too loud and harsh sounding and just pulled me out of the game rather than adding to it. Even just being able to adjust its volume separately would probably help.
Usually not so keen on the broader genre, but finding myself really intrigued by this. Been looking for an XBLA release with a bit of meat to the single player, and I'm down with the narration hook and art style.
Comes out tomorrow I believe, so this thread deserves to resurface.
Does the game offer adjustable difficulty settings?
Yes, Bastion offers adjustable difficulty settings, though not in the conventional manner you’ve come to expect from other games. In most games you’re asked to make a blind choice about difficulty before you begin play, such as by choosing between “Normal” or “Hard” modes. In Bastion, the game’s default difficulty setting is designed to be suitable for anyone with basic reading ability (for brief onscreen tutorial prompts) and a grasp of how to use a game controller. Beyond that, players may wish to engage the Shrine, which is our in-game difficulty system that’s introduced at a certain point during the story. In the Shrine, you can invoke a variety of different Idols to raise the difficulty of the game in specific ways. As a basic example, the idol to the Goddess Hense causes foes to hit harder than usual. The effects of the idols are cumulative, so the more idols you invoke, the tougher the game gets. Apart from the inherent appeal of having to learn different tactics and when fighting Shrine-enhanced enemies, the advantage of invoking more idols is that you gain a bonus to experience earned, as well as more Fragments (a currency you’ll use in the game).
That's really neat, raise the stakes as you see fit. Has there been any indication of game length? I hate measuring games in hours, but if this is my gateway to RPGs I hope there's some decent grinding to be done.

I am really loving that concept with the idols. Adjustable on the fly difficulty and controlling what aspects of it you want and don't want sounds perfect. I would likely increase enemy damage and such, but leave their health alone.
Wow, the narrator is awesome. Everything else about the game is great too (art style, music). They throw lots of upgrades/perks at you from the start, so you have some nice choices to make about your character (nothing that you can't go back and change). The setting is a bit darker than I had pictured too. I was hyped for this game, but not enough apparently.

When I looked for the game earlier on today I couldn't find it Hopefully it will be there by tomorrow!
Hey all. I bought this game this morning. I've never been active on XBL so I don't have a lot of friends there. I'm interested in comparing rankings on the leaderboard though. You can add me as Bonedrinker if you want to compare. Thanks.

I had to look for it in the A-Z section, that's normally where they put the game up before adding it to the 'newest' section.

I almost always buy my XBLA games through the website rather than on my 360. Just seems easier for some reason. Or I'm buying them when I'm not near my system.
Anyway, I briefly played Bastion this morning and cleared the first area. Seems pretty cool so far!
YES! I've been waiting for this game every since I saw it at PAXEast. Got about 15 minutes in with it this morning. Made it through the first boss fight. It definitely plays well. I think tonight I'm skipping my typical obligations and geeking out. Maybe tomorrow too.
Gabe and Tycho are usually on the same page with me when it comes to console games. I also skipped the recent X-Men movie partly because they didn't like it.
Jesus Christ.. there's already a Bastion Let's Play...?

"Kid hacks at the stabweed like there's a prize for cuttin' it all down." Enjoying the narration as much as I hoped.
Nice art style, character animation is more fluid than I was expecting (think I had sprites in mind). Not far enough in to see the depth/challenge, but I'm having fun. Repeater and machete combo works nicely for me.
Is it the lines, the guy's specific voice or just the general concept? Seems like a shame to rob yourself of all the audio because of it (though I think I place a higher premium on game audio than many). There's definitely no dialogue volume control in the settings?
Edit: Skull, genuinely curious, what style of voice would you have preferred (if that's even possible to describe). I like the guy's tone, got that semi-noir feel to it.

Sigh. We may have another Dungeon Defenders on our hands. Hint: the pc version that's been doing for over 7 months STILL hasn't been released yet.
Currently playing: GW2 and TSW
This will be here until I receive an apology or Weedlordvegeta get any consequences for being a bully
this could potentially be akward when it's repeated over and over
They claim he never repeats the same line. He still sounds awful and it's a dumb idea tho.

See you on the other side... whether that's with joy or fits of rage from download issues remains to be seen.

I'm still on the fence.
Edit: Like, are there skill trees n' stuff?
Gabe: "If you are not coming to see us at comic con today, then you should play Bastion. It is fucking amazing!"
It's more Zelda then Diablo. No skill trees anyway but there are multiple bonuses to choose from.
Yeah, saw that. Gabe's endorsement does help me in my decision a little.
How? Gabe has terrible taste in games.
Also, here's a Let's Play. Give it an ocular; should help decide.

Me too. Which is not at all. Mute button, you're my only friend.
I'm really hoping there's not any kinds of sound cues later on or I'm fucked.
Is it the voice, or the whole idea of the narrator that you hate?
Because, I like the idea, but that voice is just awful...
