AMD audio driver problems

SomestickguySomestickguy Registered User regular
Hey all,

I recently got the Creative Fatal1ty headset, with a microphone that plugs into it. I also recently got an Sapphire ATI Radeon HD5570 graphics card. I'm having a problem, however, when it comes to getting the two to work together. No matter what I do, the computer refuses to acknowledge the microphone's existence, and from what I've gathered it's doing this because the sound card's drivers aren't updated, and this is where we reach my problem.

I've been searching for an audio driver update for some time, but time and time again I am redirected to this stupid, deceptive "driver detective", which promises to scan your computer for drivers that need updates (that part's free) and install them for you (that part's not free, although of course they don't mention that until you reach that point).

The AMD website (looking at my system information, the soundcard is "AMD High Definition Audio Device") is also proving utterly useless. Why is it so hard to get a legitimate driver update? Could I get any help, or links, with this?

Thanks!

Hahahaha, as a side note, When that "driver detective" asked for my e-mail, I put in an account I no longer use and my name as "Jehosaphat Yang". I just checked and sure enough, spam e-mail to Jehosaphat.

    No-one use Driver Detective.

Uh...you don't need to worry about that "AMD High Definition Audio Device". IIRC that's basically the audio device when you're outputting sound over the HDMI port.

Do you have the USB version of that headset? What motherboard/sound card do you have?

    A: I don't have HDMI, I'm using a DVI cable

B: Nope, no USB, just the ol' green and pink

C: I have no idea what my soundcard is, how do I find out? Is it included in my graphics card? Also, My motherboard says ASRock. I... don't know how to find out anything further.

Even if you're using a DVI cable, if your video card has an HDMI port (and it probably does) then it will still have that audio device.

It's probably integrated into your motherboard. If you look in either the device manager or system information utility under the sound category (in System Information it'll be under Components -> Sound Device) it should be listed. And I wouldn't be surprised if it was a Realtek HD Audio device.

My video card doesn't have a HDMI port, but it does have a DP port which is apparantley a new thing?

Also, I did look in system information, components, sound device, that's where I got "AMD High Definition Audio Device". There's also just regular "High Definition audio device" and my webcam listed.
