Most of my friends had parents that would take them to buy individual cards that they wanted at the local gaming/comics store.
My parents, though never discouraging of any of my hobbies, didn't oft foot the bill for my Magic cards. They may have bought me some boosters for a birthday. Also maybe my first pre-constructed deck so I could play with friends.
So I lost like every game and realized I just didn't have the money to compete with the kids in the lunchroom or the kids I hung out with.
