Pretty much as the title describes. I find myself going through earbuds every couple of months. Granted, that's because I usually don't spend more than 20 bucks on them but still, I would like to try to get a good pair of earbuds, or maybe two, one for work, and one for work/exercise.
I love Sennheiser earbuds. Shure is also a go-to brand.

I tried asking for his last year and was told there was pretty much no such thing. Best bet is to take better care of your earbuds so they last longer.
Pro-tip I've gotten that has made a world of difference. Don't leave your earbuds jacked in, especially if you wrap the cord around your ipod. Unplugging it strains the wire a hell of a lot less.

I recently got these and absolutely love them. I've had the lower end Senns before, and I like these better.
In my experience its the way you store, transport, etc the earbuds that makes them last or fall apart.
Wrap your earbuds securely on something, and keep them in a pocket or bag compartment separate from other crushing, cutting, or wet things, and they'll last forever.
I've had one pair of earbuds for years now using this method. My wife on the other hand, is able to destroy a set in a week bc they live in a tangle at the bottom of her bag and either get crushed, or ripped.

Sennheiser ones will break in a couple of months (it's a feature, not a design fault! They use super thin wire snaps). Fortunately, you just send them back as they will break under warranty and then you get a new pair. Rinse and repeat.

I've had these for over a year. They're cheap, and super durable. I often fall asleep with my mp3 player listening to music, and when I wake up in the morning, the cord is all tangled from me rolling all over the place, yet they're still going strong.
Shure's warranty is great, but he said that he doesn't spend more than $20 on a set of headphones, didn't he?
Huh. I read the post as "I usually don't spend $20 on headphones and they keep breaking, so I thought I'd try to buy non-crappy headphones this time," but I guess I could see it as "I want to find better $20 headphones."
I actually wouldn't mind buying a good pair of headphones. I'm lucky enough that I tend to be able to listen to stuff for most of my workday. I haven't been spending more than 20 bucks-usually just the ones you can pick up at walmart-mostly because I'm afraid that if I pick up a good pair, they'll still end up breaking shortly.
I do have the habit of leaving the cord jacked in and wrapping it around my zune, so I'm not doing that anymore.
Well in that case, yeah, go for the shures or sennheisers. With their 2 year warranties, you might actually save money depending on how often the $20 ones broke
I've gone through much of the same struggles as you. I think I've gone through four pairs of in-ear headphones in the past year.
Treatment changes everything. Don't stuff them in pockets; fold them carefully. That said, some still die easily. If you want relatively good earphones that sound fine and are relatively durable, I've had some Skullcandy Titans for a few months now and they seem fine.
If you're ok with expensive in-ear headphones, well, it's sort of my hobby to collect them. I've owned virtually everything under 500 dollars from Shure, Sennheiser, Audio-Technica, Denon, and Grados. The following will sound ridiculous, but I recommend the Monster Miles Davis Tributes. I abhor their marketing campaign, but the sound that comes out of these suckers is phenomenal. I got them for 250 on Amazon (retail at 500); the one-time-no-questions-asked free replacement also attracted me.
But yeah, if you don't want to spend much, lower end Shure and Sennheisers are fine (like under 100). Just treat them better.
I've had a pair of Skullcandy Smokin Buds for about a year and they still work fine. They're not as high quality as Sennheiser, but they're less expensive and still good.

I got a pair of these, because they supposedly are very durable. Tried all the permutations of the tips and couldn't get a good seal with them
I had that problem at first too, and tried all the tips with no luck. Eventually I settled on the two-tiered ones and within a few days they were getting a good seal. It was annoying at first, I admit, but now I love them.

From what I'm reading, no, they're absolute garbage.

I know these are discontinued but you could either find them at a reduced price or just go for the next level in quality.

The iphone mic is great, too.
