The various stories of Conan the Barbarian occur in the fictional "Hyborian Age", set after the destruction of Atlantis and before the rise of the known ancient civilizations. This is a specific epoch in a fictional timeline created by Howard for many of the low fantasy tales of his artificial legendary.
Conan comics were the fucking BEST. The magazine-sized, black and white Savage Sword books in particular. They are in the process of collecting the whole run in large paperbacks.
I have up to book six, my book one disappeared on me, and I have a fund going in a Thor slurpee cup for the remaining books and to replace the one that was lost.
My childhood is printed in those books. I goddamn love Conan, and I will see this movie twice even if it sucks. Just in case.
I only have the first volume of this, but it is a spectacular volume, and I really should get the other volumes.

yeah this is strongly suggested in one of the last stories in that first volume. Conan encounters a wizard who was using some ancient well that could be used to retrieve items from other eras. He makes references to a land known as Egypt that will apparently come into existence in the distant future.
The new movie looks both shitty and well produced. I'm torn.
I always thought the intriguing thing about the old Conan movie was the lack of elaborate, highly stylized fighting scenes... and dialog.
Also the soundtrack for that movie was really really good. The Generic Metal in the trailer not so much.
Edit: Howard was a big history nerd but he needed a time and place to fantasy shit up for his stories so he made up the Hyperborean Age.

man I love Conan. The books, the comics, the movie, everything. If nothing else, I expect that the new film will be a couple of hours of Conan breaking faces and sexing with ladies. Sounds good to me!

I liked everything as a kid which involved swords and sorcery and evil snake men and shit like that. Conan, the Elric books, Fafhrd and Grey Mouser, I couldn't get enough.
Actually he was one of the characters I found most annoying on SG: Atlantis, but that show was pretty bad overall and I won't hold it against him. I also think he's a better choice than the hammy, musclebound Arnold even if he's the classic Conan of my youth.
