Fail potions and find frog cards in [POTTERMORE]

So POTTERMORE has been announced.

We've been waiting about a week for JK Rowling to announce what this special new thing was. Was it a book? Was it a book? And more importantly, was it a book?

It's not a book.

BUT, it sounds kind of cool anyway. It's super vague but what is understood that it's like an interactive walk through the story with a special character you create. He or she will get sorted, go through classes, get points, and follow Harry through the story. That is what I understand so far.

from The Guardian
Starting with the first novel in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Pottermore will allow its users to navigate their way through the story, with all-new illustrations and interactive "moments". Users start out by choosing a magical username, and as they move through the chapters of the book they will be sorted into houses – Rowling herself has written a "vast pool" of questions to direct users to their correct home – choose wands, shop on Diagon Alley and experience life at Hogwarts, just like Harry. Points can be won for houses by casting spells and mixing potions, users will be able to comment and add their own drawings and content – and Rowling herself will be dropping in "as a normal punter" now and then.

"If you are not sorted into Gryffindor, if you go into one of the other three houses, you will effectively get an extra quarter of a chapter. You will go off into your own common room, meet your own prefect, and find out what the true nature of the house is. In the main novel you only see the houses through the eyes of the heroes. So it's not a terrible thing to be in Slytherin," said the author, who admitted it was "a little frightening" how easily she slipped back into writing about Potter. "It's exactly like an ex-boyfriend ... I've never cried for a man as I cried for Harry Potter. Now we're casually dating and we have been for two years."

I am pretty excited, coming from someone who used to shamelessly roleplay on a Harry Potter MUSH.

SO HEY WHO ELSE IS GONNA DO THIS WITH ME

(submit an email isn't working for me right now, but we can find out about early entry on July 31)

When I finished reading Harry Potter I was kind of sad that I could not continue my adventure in Hogwart's, so I will probably read along with this.

The only new Harry Potter media I have wanted was started when someone here wrote up a potential movie trailer for a movie about the original Order of the Phoenix fighting Voldemort the first time around.

A well written action movie about that would be dope and I want it so bad

Hogwarts-simulator-in-all-but-name Academagia now has a demo out! And dear lord, this game is every bit as in-depth as Kieron described in his awesome impressions article. I was laughing out loud at the endlessness of character creation, not to mention some of the skills. Greengrocery? How important is greengrocery to a young wizard? Just how bad is the dining hall food? Should I put the points in gossip instead? Or a familiar? A rat? A cat? A bat?

It’s utterly bewildering. Spellbinding, even. Everything about Academagia screams labour of love, and you should almost certainly check it out for that reason alone. The demo lets you play for half an hour, which is probably only enough time for your face to begin to unscrunch itself from the balled up paper-bag expression this game will reduce it to in moments. And if you look at the official site, you’ll see the developers are adding even more adventures, items, locations, skills, abilities and actions every single month.

I think a few of you are going to fall head over heels in love with this one. Kieron actually ended his impressions by saying that it’s far too much of a specialist product to not have a demo, but now there’s a demo! So, yeah. Take a look. And here’s a four part video tutorial to ease you gently into the game’s muggy waters. You could definitely go fumbling through the game yourself (as I had some success doing (by “some” I mean I got mauled by a lion on my first day at school and caught fire the following Wednesday)), but if you’re after something more organised, these are what you want.

    http://www.academagia.com/admissions.html

In the meantime we can entertain outselves with Academagia.

He wasn't much of a fighter, or particularly clever. The kind of useless side character best glossed over.

But he was a loyal hufflepuff 'friend'.

This is the site where Rowling is going to post little back-story tidbits right?

Because it sounds cool but in the example I read she said one of them would focus on how the Dursleys met (I assume it was at the British equivalent of a clan rally.) and frankly I don't think a single person in the workd cares how two child abusers met and fell in love due to shared bigotry.

pretty sure it was Dumbledore breaking the ring, I think Crabbe/Goyle accidentally burned the Tiara with fiendfire, and Hermione just went and "oops, found a bassilisk fang" and destroyed the goblet.

    Not 100% tho.
